If I may be as so bold to ask; I realize they "are" Refurbs and not much of a true original value, but why do folks have the fear of them?  nea1  I have the other one I showed here last year and it shoots like a dream!  At 100 yards, I was punching out 4" groups with my 60 year old eyes!  chuckles1  Who knows, maybe the way things are going even these might become "collectable" some day...  wink1

Here in NM, we have a type of cow that you get when you have a Black Angus bull bred with a Hereford cow that are commonly called "Black Baldies".  Bearing that in mind, whenever I see a blonde laminate stocked gun with BBQ paint, the term "Black Blondie" always pops into my head.  These guns have always been a bit of an outlier price-wise because they tend to command a higher price than most collectors think they "should".  We noticed this way back in 2012 when Boomer was still doing the SKS gunbroker report over at SKSBoards.

As many in this thread have said, there is nothing wrong with them at all.  Great shooters, great lookers.  I think the reason they are often valued higher is because they look so darn nice!  The alluring photos draw collectors in and in the olden days before this craziness, you would once in a while get an auction where one of these guns would command a price close to what you'd pay for an as-issued '54 Tula.

I don't pretend to understand the market and what truly drives prices, but it is what it is and by this metric you did really well on this one Dave.  thumb1

Thanks for the Input RM!  thumb1. As said before, I'm still in the learning process but catching on quick.  I think some of those Refurbs are very nice looking.  And as said, I realize there not original but the way I'm now looking at it, It's an SKS as long as it's not Bubbasized!  I like the purity of the rifle.  I did "snow camo"one I had, you might remember but the stock was beat to $#IT and it was Californized/bayonet lug was milled off, not to mention it was a high number Chinese.  So, I'm gonna use that one for my New Hampshire ATV rides!   I just love shooting these rifles and none of mine shoot quite the same.  This is now my 7th I think...  whistle12. Oh Boy, not sure now that I'm writing this...  chuckles1

I finally recieved my SKS yesterday, the bolt carrier "Does" match the rest of the serial numbers, it wasn't in the photos.  Now here's another question; The stock IS Lamanite but the serial numbers and original, No XXXXXXX in them or it anythere.  Could this be an original stock?  Going back to the reading and learning here is says in one of the posts that they 1957 "could" have either/or.  Any real way of knowing?      Sadly, the only forced match part is the magazine, all the rest is a match.  I'm gonna take it to the range today.   :)

pcke2k, wouldn't it be possible on a '57 for the laminated stock to be the original one? I thought '55 and up they were issued with them.
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

Yes, but not with this specific rifle. Non-refurb original laminated stocks have very different colors and like Russian hardwood stocks, there's an inward 'dent' at upper rear end of buttstock.

Ah okay, gotchya, that's beyond my knowledge-base when you start talking color differences. :)

Home from the range, the pics are the first 40 rounds through it. 20 on left target, 1st group of shots then 20 on the right target after I got myself in zone and minumul site adjustment.  It's a great shooter! These are at 50 yards.

Why, given the range report AND the title of this thread, do I keep hearing a certain RAM JAM song in my head??
