Hi All,

Looking at a Hakim that's kinda rough. Don't know much abut them, other than they're Egypt built Swedes. Any pricing range? PAX

Beat up, you say then I would be around $700 range. They are freaking a fun gun to shoot. Love the Hakim. DO NOT SHOOT TURK AMMO IN IT!!!!

Concur w Bob.  Great rifles.  Inexpensive 700 very good over a G.  Hopefully has a nice bore.

A few things..

1. Parts are pretty hard to find, so make sure it's complete. Some parts like the handguard, which is pretty fragile, is practically non-existant on the open market.
2. The gas system, especially the gas valve can be seized up, and fairly temperamental, either use a custom wrench or doctor one up to fit and adjust.  NO TURKISH AMMO!!
3. Bore condition should be checked. Mags can be finicky, and expensive, most aftermarket ones need feed lips adjusted, factory ones can need adjusting to suit a particular rifle.
4. Garand thumb has nothing on Hakim thumb.  :o
5. Bayonets are pricey and uncommon.

I've seen prices between 750/800 for a rough one to over 1300 for a very minty nice one. Actually, Egypt bought the design and all the tooling used to build the AG m/42 from Sweden to build it.

Like shooting a 10 pound railroad tie... thumb1

I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

OH YEAH, good one GM, don't get your thumb or fingers in the action snapping shut on this one Im sure it would be ugly. Watch videos on how to correctly load with strippers and everything else. That action closing is no joke.

I saw one at a shop a few years back, very clean...looked complete. Six hundred IIRC...
The guy behind the counter couldn't help himself but to show me how flippin dangerous those things are.  I didn't realize the price was actually pretty good.

OK. What's the deal with the Turk ammo?

Too hot?

Some people use it...  it was something to do with Turk ammo having a slower burning powder, pressure and the gas system design. I just use regular mundane stinky Romanian or even Prvi/Yugo 8mm.  Like I said, some have used it, but is it worth the risk, parts are hard to find and no sense in beating it to death.

Turkish is light ball and very high velocity. Calculations of ballistic energy indicates it packs about 10% more energy than any other surplus ammo iirc from the 8mm ammo tests that Blicero conducted many years ago. No big deal for bolt action Mausers but for a semiautomatic designed to use slower heavy ball, perhaps not so good.

If it has a powder with a faster deflagration rate and hence a higher pressure spike, that’d be concerning. I think it’s unlikely that it creates a dangerous over pressure or you’d expect that some of the small ring Turkish Mauser and Gew88s would have blown up...I don’t know think1 maybe they did  nailbite1 doh1 but I doubt it  rofl

I wouldn't say it's over pressure, but the pressure spike is different than other ammo, a bolt action doesn't notice, a semiauto would. I've not really seen the typical over pressure problems in empty cases.

People have claimed, in other threads, on G'Boards that it (Turk 8mm) has ruined gas operated guns.

Ah.
Thanks guys. I was curious as I've fired quite a bit of Turk stuff through bolt guns.
That stuff was cheap and EVERYWHERE a few years back.

Persian is Iraqi made ammo. I had a bunch, only have 2 or 3 boxes left. It didn't seem hot in a bolt action, it's just dirty, like Romanian. Never tried it in the Hakim. And it's pretty much all corrosive, that's why cleaning the gas system is a must, and why so many gas valves are seized.

It's going to be a round about score, but it might happen. The LGS want $875 but has had it for some time. I've eyeballed it off and on for 2 years.

I'm talking horse trading with a buddy, my NFA AR for his Browning Magnum Twelve A5.

The LGS with the Hakim is interested in the A5...so I'm looking at it as trading my polymer AR for the Hakim.  thumb1
