Just got this bad boy dropped at my doorstep.
Oberndorf manufacture, 1941 issue K98, a true bolt mismatch. The neat part of this gun is the Luftwaffe branch mark on the stock, a cool provenance for this well used warhorse.

"I don't appreciate you showing Nazi images. My old lady's granddad died at Auschwitz."
"I'm sorry to hear that..."
"Yeah...he fell off a guard tower."

Yeah, congrats...nice looking snag!

Way cool Kevin.  k98 is on my short list.  Actually #1 on the list.
In war, there are no winners or losers.  Just survivors. DR

Are there any good estimates of the number that went to the Luftwaffe or Kriegsmarine (you have one of those too I recall, though I think your "M" was a 29/40)?

Dannyboy53

Blicero you have a Kriegsmarine rifle? How about a peek at it and it's markings, I've never seen one.

Blicero

Sorry for the delay replying here. I didn't realize having a taped up mouth would psychologically affect me to shut up.

Damn that's a good question. I recall Speer writing a passage about the Luft ordering 10,000 98s in 1938...just from one factory. But that was at the same time Goring was trying to push for more G29O usage too. I don't know about overall distribution though.

Basically, they're all the same besides the "L", "H", or "M" branch mark on the stock. Some k98s will have a Navy-marked takedown disk signifying Baltic or North Sea service but that's the only oddity I can think of. Here's a navy mark on a G29/40, which is just a k98 clone built on stolen Polish parts.
