Saw this on my local trader site if anyone is interested, although, it may be a little steep. Says he's willing to ship. Viet Nam bring back with papers.

My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

Those papers are copies....not really worth the paper they are printed on I'm afraid.

I'm at a loss to explain why a bayo groove-less stock would be on that gun if it's a VN replacement.  As far as I know, those stocks didn't exist til the 'sporter' style guns were sold w/o bayonets in the 80's and early 90's and even then, they typically just left the groove as-is instead of filling it.  Maybe a new stock that failed to get the groove cut?  Doesn't even look like it has the brass pin(s) to keep the stock from cracking at the bayo groove.  Definitely a odd one.  dntknw1

Since it is a side sling swivel on the stock shouldn't that be for a short lugged blade bayonet SKS? I was thinking it is that and not a non-cutout stock. It would still make the spike ride up since the cutout is shorter.

Also, how can you tell the paper is a copy? Asking to learn, haven't gotten into the VN bringbacks much.

Side swivel stocks were indeed made for spike bayos.  Different arsenals had different component configurations.  For /26\, yes, generally the slig swivel progression is bottom to side and then back to bottom.  All the others are all over the map though.

And the reason I think those papers are copies is because #1) he's got a staple through them (typically dead giveaway right there because you staple identically sized papers right after they are copied to keep them together) #2) the originals are on much different paper and #3) the stamps should be in color:

I've got no reason to think he's lying about it being a bring back, I suspect it probably is one.  In today market $1k isn't ridiculous, but if I'm going to shell out that kind of $, I want a gun with as few inconsistencies as I can get.

What RM said. Also, I own a bring-back. BUT, the clearance papers that the 1st FSR, FLC, Danang (Red Beach), RVN Provost Marshal gave me, 3 days before I hopped on my Freedom Bird flight back to "the world" in '69 - are long gone (dammit). Alas, it'll only be the real deal to urs truly. Gave it to my son; along with my issue Camillus K-BAR and scabbard, service medals, with a note to my grandson. Otherwise, my wife woulda probably sold everything for fifty bucks after I croaked!
