Finally got out to the ranged and sighted in the sks's.   The albanian replacement stock needs the lever recess cut or else it flies up every shot.

No peep sights on it yet but the stock sights for shooting 100 yards are good for minute of man (what they were designed for)   12" gong was decently easy to shoot that far out.

The recess for the inverted stock levers is only for easy access, if the lever is flopping about..its an issue with the lever/receiver cover fitment.   The only issue you should have without the stock recess is difficulty getting a thumbnail under the lever flap, which should come to rest, in proper place flat on the stockline.  If the stock isn't actually allowing the lever to fully go in....that's a different story.

Nice that you got to go out shooting, it's so hot and dry here, I am afraid of starting a forest fire. Seems the locals feel the same, I haven't heard a shot in weeks around here.

Agreed the recess is there for access.. but on the albanian replacement the side it too high to allow the lever to engage the dimple in the receiver.

Guessing you are from the mid west region?     We have storm after storm here so its nice and humid.   I try to go out in the mornings when visiting the inlaws...  this is my  father inlaws private range.

This Ebay listing has a stock that might help you, but you have to buy both:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Sks-stocks-1-Chinese-and-1-Russian/224127350201?hash=item342f07f5b9:g:fx4AAOSwz7FfQTUG

ill just take a file to the stock and get it to work.   80 dollars  vs  shaving off some wood  makes it an easy decision.   Ill use my other stock as a template for how they did it from factory.

the nicest part is not having to worry about the guy next to you pointing a muzzle in your direction (thats happened to me a few times).   i did have to do some maintenance on it since my Father in law passed 1 year ago  but ill take the good with the bad.    the max range is 350 yards.

this is the guy who taught me how to work on firearms,  reload and bench rest.   Pretty amazing mentor.

Actually I am from Montana....it's been quite crispy around here after a very wet spring allowing the undergrowth to thrive before dying.
I didn't realize the Albanian stocks had a higher wall on the stock...might be interesting to figure out how to give it a recess....a little dangerous for a chisel, a little harsh for a rasp. Best of luck! :P

For a bunch of shooters, that's actually a very nice tribute.
