Any opinions on what you see here?
It’s missing the original mag.  Replacement gas tube?

3 million series Chinese Type 56, 1958 production.

The stock has been refinished and much of the metal has been painted except for the bolt carrier and the gas tube.

Yup, a highly bubba'd third year Sino-Banian. The finish on the gas tube is likely indicative of what the rest of the gun looks like under the paint.  That plus the mag and stock refinish issues make it a shooter with greatly reduced collectability I’m afraid.

But!
You'll have one you can shoot the daylights out of and not worry about getting a scratch on it.

I didn’t even catch the paint in the pics. I’m going to pass.

Thank you

Probably a wise move unless they were offering it for next to nothing.  I hadn’t noticed that the crossbolt was missing from the first photo either; shooting it like that is asking for the stock to crack at some point.  thumb1

So glad I posted. Thanks again. He wasn’t giving it away, but could’ve come out with an ok trade. With the issues you guys added to what I saw I’m definitely going to wait for a better example to make a move on.  I do have a 12mil unbubbaed spiker and want to add another one to the collection. I’m curious about the dark color stock and what appears to be an arsenal stock repair. May post up some pics for discussion/info.

Does the stock have the matching final five digits of the receiver S/N?  Hard to tell, might be a replacement stock?

Other 13 mil /26\ I have in my photo collection show relatively light stocks:

The S/N is the kicker but one other telltale sign would be to look at the stock where the receiver cover release lever tab goes.  Inverted lever (which all 13 mils are) will have a cutout in the original stock:
