Hi

Went to the range today and the Rifle was jamming excessively. After getting home a disassembly revealed the short piston spring is shot. Where is the best place to get one?

thanks

Here you go, brother.

The link is for a new spring. If I were buying a spring, that's the way I'd go.

What happened to the one you have?

Thank you I just ordered one.

The old spring started unwinding at both ends

just fitted the new spring to the OP rod and I noticed something weird. the new spring is smaller diameter. Its as if years of use had caused the old spring to unravel and widen somehow

How long have you had this one, Gary?

Sounds like you have inherited someone else's problem.
The good thing is that SKS's  are hard to kill.

Start with the basics.

Does it jam every round?

Have you done a thorough disassembly and cleaning?

Start checking for bent, broken, and missing parts.

It was jamming like every third or 4th round. I hadn't cleaned it completely after purchase so after the last range visit I pulled it apart and found the Gas tube gooped up with what I think was  Cosmoline plus the worn OP spring. All is cleaned up now and with the new spring should be good. range visit coming Tuesday I'll let you know
