  I was going to post a thread on my all-matching 1963 (8 million /26\) Type 56 SKS, but I got sidetracked when I started pulling out the other Chinese SKS that were in the way. Them dang SKS! Always underfoot.  cry1

  I had a little time to do whatever I wanted, so I thought I'd see what the Yugo HG crate would look like loaded with the Chinese "junk".

  Well, in full disclosure, there's 9 Chinese and one Romy in the crate.  I was tired and too lazy to swap the stock of a tenth 1966 Chinese Type 56 back to a wooden set. It's currently in a UF configuration, which is how I bought it long ago. It had been cut to Paratrooper length and assembled with non-matching parts. Since it was a mixmaster anyway, I just sub'd the Romy for time's sake. (and looks)  There was NO way I was going to stick a black plastic stock in there with all the other "as-issued's!  :)) And I wanted to use "as-issued" rifles, and do the Commercial types later.

"The box"  I need to come up with a creative "translation" for the crate. Papa's Toy Box just isn't working for me. I can't tell my Grandkids it's a "toy box" of any sort!

  Lower Level: From back to front; '91 import by D.I.G. (Very nice condition, but most parts are non serial #'d), '63 all-matching /26\ (Looks to be unfired since import. The stock has the usual obligitory dings from that import period. I do wish those guys wouldn't have treated these rifles as "$79.00 cheap Chinese junk".), '67 Navy Arms /26\ Cowboy Companion. (It's not all-matching because of the stock modification for the Type 89 mount. I still have no clue as to why Navy Arms didn't use the original SN'd stocks for these? I do have the entire Type 89 Scope Mount, PolyTech 2.5x18 Scope, and the original green Transit Case for the mount and scope assembly. Also have the Red Star 4X scope that was also used on these, as well as the rubber eye relief and rubber front cover. That setup was hard to find, and NOT cheap.), '71? all-matching /156\ "West Coast Rail" (Bayo lug was neutered, and I have no mount for this one. SN is 1611549, so I'm using a 16th Year "guess" on this one.), and the '60 Romanian. (non-matching, but they're nice rifles and I'm happy to have one.)

  Upper Level: From back to front; '79 /26\ CSI import (24 mil) (I really like these rifles. They made them in different shades of finish, well machined, and all-around great SKS. All of the top layer is excellent condition. I think one of the 24 mil's may have been fired a little, but not sure. The others are definitely not fired since import, which should mean, NOS.?) '79 /26\ CSI import (24 mil) (Another nice one. May have a few dings in the stock from "handling", by apes?), '79 /26\ CSI import (24 mil) (My favorite red-stocked SKS. They did a pretty fair job of matching the shades and colors of finish,  matching the stocks and the "tickler" hand guards.) '78 /26\ CSI import (23 mil) (These '78-'79 rifles all came to me in their original SN'd boxes, with the usual accessories. Most of my SKS are kept in their original boxes to avoid any more "handling marks". ? (year) /416\--Public Security Forces--KFS import (18 mil) (One of my absolute favorites. NOS, unfired since import date of 10/13/1987. Has zero blemishes on the wood, anywhere. It was finished in a walnut color--not bubba'd--workmanship is great on this one.)

  Stock color variations;

  I'll try to add more as I can. I will post threads of any one of these, or all, as requested. I'm trying on the pics. I hope to get better. I'd like to try some outdoor pics.

  I'm going to do the same with my Yugo's, although I only have eight of those. I'll throw in the two '54 Russian Tula BBQ's to make it a full case. Hey, it passes the time in a happy way.  thumb1

Quite the beauty FC!  I need to get off my tail and do something with my HG crate too.  Right now it's collecting dust in the garage, but I'm still formulating a plan to get it in the house w/o the wife getting too bent out of shape.  I'm thinking that maybe if I show her some of your photos, she might warm up to how truly good the contents of this bad boy can actually be!

It's quite noticeable the extra length for the GL on these crates, I wonder if I could better utilize that space for something else seeing as I only have a single M59/66 and it most likely wouldn't go in this crate anyhow...   thumb1

Very nice dectet of SKSs!  thumb1

I guess you know the actual translation
PA for polavtomatsko = semiautomatic
puška = rifle
(PAP 7,62)
protokol = protocol

Creative translation: PA's (grandpa's) private protocol crate

You could always put in a shelf at the top and pack it with ammo. (I unscrewed the handle on one end and set it upright, hence my use of the word top). The ammo shelf/compartment converts it to a real SHTF-WTF Party Pack (s*** hits the fan, with ten friends) :))

  Thanks RM! Yeah, at first, I was wondering if the dividers were in backwards, or something? All that extra room on one end and close on the other end. Then, I set my Cherry's M59/66 in there and I could see how it would be much more balanced using those.

  I thought about getting a piece of 1/4" safety glass that's abundant around here and having it cut to fit as a top for the "coffee table" look. I think the dividers would work as support for the glass. The crate was built fairly flat, well within reach of making it work. Since the glass will cost me nothing, I could pay to have the glass drilled for hinges and a couple of gas charged prop rods, as used on car and SUV deck lids, windows, etc. The prop rods would take the (some) worry out of picking the glass up and letting it down too hard/fast. I don't know. Wifey says I have way too much imagination. She has noooo.....idea!   :-X

  Thanks Phos! I'd seen the translation a while back, but I couldn't remember the definition of PA. And, your creative translation works, too!

  Has anyone run across a favorite, or favored, website that helps a person to hear the words spoken in other languages? I've been studying Russian for a while on my own using a CD program. It's interesting but I don't learn as well without speaking with someone or hearing it spoken in the context of the here and now.  Immersion would be great, but we don't have large immigrant populations close to us, other than Hispanic. Like this "pa puška 7,62 protokol".  I'd like to know how this sounds, spoken correctly.

  Thanks Carl! It's amazing how rarely I get to bring the rifles out to clean them, and just look them over. Getting to the range is happening a lot less than I'd like, as well. Gotta do it when I get the chance.

  Oh sure, pile on!   :)  Thanks spongemonkey!  The days of cleaning 3 or 4 guns after a range trip are few and far between nowadays. I'm getting to the place where I like that smell when I open the crate!  Ah, the cosmoline fragrance, 24/7!

Very nice!!    8)

I have mine as a shtf box... Few sks, AK, 1911, ammo, mags.  You get the idea.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

newchi

Theres a lot more space between each rifle in that case than the Russian ones.
My crate holds bags of accessories, pouches etc 3 spare stocks and something else surplus, maybe a veshmeshok, i forget
