Was wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect from SOGs current Chinese SKS offerings. They give the standard caveat emptor  in the description for surplus but thought someone here could give some insight on this batch.

At Christmas I got a few and they were claiming matching.  Those were still from the first CAI batch; all 6 digit, 2 mil, or 3 mil. Then they went out of stock.  Now they say "1960's Era Rifles" in the description so I suspect these are from the TGI 2014 shipment and heavy on 7 mil rifles, so I don't know what to expect.

What do you get for your ten bucks when upgrading to a hand pick?
Could you perhaps request they search for specific serial ranges, and ensure full parts matching...as in go to the trouble of looking at all the serialed parts and...gasp...actually take it apart to check the internals?

That is pretty spendy for buying out of the barrel so to speak. Full retail for an average SKS...and you get the mystery of buying sight unseen for free?  I dislike sales like this, I know it is probably difficult to itemize each gun, but for that price, being able to actually see what gun you are getting would be nice.  Even if they just would send you photos before shipping for you to give  final OK before shipping would be better than hoping for the best.

I would be tempted to pick up one of the unissued Yugos for the extra sixty bucks just to be a little more aware of what you would be getting...I would float them the extra ten buck just to search for tritium sights.
(and cancel the order if they didn't have any. :) )

I picked one up around the holidays when they were slightly cheaper. I paid the extra $10 for handpick and asked for a low number gun from factory/arsenal 26. From what I can tell, they sent me a "ghost" with a 42xxx serial number and no factory markings. As expected, most of the bluing is gone but it appears to have the original stock and everything appears to match up. It's now one of my favorite rifles and I'm thinking of picking up another even at the higher price.

I can post a few pics if that would help.

Ha! Pics are always great. Ive looked at some locally but it seems like all the ones locally are rough, bubba'd and incomplete. Never ordered from SOG before and want to be a little cautious. Thanks for the feedback.

Man....I don't know....  :o
thats like bringing a bottle of vodka to an AA meeting, a dimebag or a rock to an addicts meeting, or like a deck of cards and 2 poker chips to a gamblers anonymous meeting, maybe a blowup doll/strap on to a sexaholics recovery meeting.. rofl2

Pictures are always......WELCOMED, encouraged in fact   thumb1 thumb1
I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

Leave the gun, take the cannoli.

I said I was an addict........I didn't say I had a problem

Sorry fellas got sidetracked with the kids! I also ran into all sorts of problems with photobucket. Running-man, can I email them over to you for posting?

Here are TC's photos, pre-cleaning. Nice looking ghost here, bluing isn't near as bad as some that are out there:

These are definitely IO or TGI (missed the IO import stamp below the right gas tube when I posted these, can't tell if Monroe or Palm Bay though...) imports, not CAI guns.

Pictures worth a thousand words. Thanks for the effort to get those up. This answers the other question I had-how thick was the Cosmo. Nice looking rifle. Most of the Chinese I see around here look like they've been left outside for 50 years. No finish left, just gray wood and a healthy dose of rust.

Thanks Running-man for posting those for me! Yes, it's an IO import but I'm not sure what SOG has now. When I placed my order (December) the add did say that they were numbers matching. You could probably email them to check. They answered my question about their Yugos in about a day.

I love that giant knot in the stock...that is pretty unusual.

Nice one! Love the knot too!

I suddenly have a craving for Boo Berry cereal...

I emailed them today. Asked if they were matching numbers and if they could ballpark the serial range. They answered back in an hour and said they could not quote the serial number range and that they are not matching numbers. Should have jumped on them earlier.
