This is one of two SKS's I recently picked up, both of which are my first(s). Was able to strip it down for a few good pics over the weekend and thought I would share. It was imported by I.O. Palm Bay FL late in 2013.

Very nice!  I wonder if there is any significance to the 56 stamped on the bottom of the receiver, or just a cool coincidence?

Looks more like the common inspection numbers we see.  Im more interested in the huge stylized y.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

I was actually going to ask about the big y. Is it common?

Very nice Gt1!  thumb1  Matching and a very good condition stock  8)  ...especially for an Albanian (dragged through the mud, left in a damp Hoxha Bunker and dragged through the mud some more) Type 56

Looks like a Cyrillic U

For Mosins У on the barrel shank is considered to be the final black powder proof mark.  In this case it would seem to be a very odd spot for a proof mark (proof cartridge rather than black powder).  Some type of receiver manufacturing process inspection mark seems more likely.
