I was trying to help avoid anything that would be as permanent as glue....but that would work too.

That is wacky about the bonus op rod spring...I don't think it would affect function unless it deteriorated and was fired...like, if you were to fire it before discovering it has been festering in there for 45-50 years!  The piston and tube should allow for that to be in there and function as long as everything was clean.  Even if it was a spare, that is probably the least likely thing you would need a spare for on an SKS.  rofl2

It is likely that a group got together for a cleaning party and someone launched their op rod spring into another guys pile o parts...and not being super familiar with that part, since it shouldn't have been taken out for a field strip anyway...maybe he just did his best from recollection....and there really isn't anywhere else that could be mistakenly put....but, I gotta say that is a first for me to hear.  Surely at least one of them had a bad day at the office.
