Had a friend bring over a Russian sks that he recently purchased at a lgs. I noticed some stamps in the stock and we're wondering if they've been seen before.

Was it just stamped by some previous owner you think? The funny thing is, it's stamped 1954 but the rifle is a 53 Tula (according to the cover which matches) And YES.......Kingpin popped in my head......lol.

The "1668" punched into the stock is part of the serial number. Usually it is on the left side of the stock. The 1954 appears to be the year of the Russians mfg. And some guy by the name of Munson owned it at one time. Is their a 1954 date on the dust cover top?

There is but one language in the USA, English.

That's the funny part. ....it's stamped 53 on the cover. I suppose it's someone with a stamp set going buck wild.

If its been reworked.... A 53 cover could have been scrubbed and matched, meaning it may actually be a 54.

Strange stamping that I dont see much of a motive for by a previous US owner.  :-\

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Wow, that's fascinating! Thanks for sharing it.

Thurman Munson's SKS  :))  Big premium  timeout ...

Okay, I'll be serious. The MUNSON + odd symbol and the M + the same odd symbol on the stock sure sounds like an American owner name to me. Those are interesting markings behind the receiver cover but the fonts don't match the stock number in style, and seem similar to the letters. I'd lean toward them all being done in the US. Perhaps some owner, former rancher?  chuckles1 , who branded his firearms with his name and the unique symbol.

MUNSON, a big premium, bah, spice it up a bit, 'ol  Charles was stoned playing with his stamp set, he mispelled...MANSON  :o  rofl2.
I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

Leave the gun, take the cannoli.

I said I was an addict........I didn't say I had a problem
