54 izzy covered refurb?

It's sad that the motto of young Americans isn't "live free or die" or "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country" or even "ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country". Instead their motto is "pee yourself, shelter in place and cry for help". Pathetic.

My Christmas gift from you?

Well....I guess it's not really THAT exciting....lol. it's a stop sign....... rofl
Nothing gets by you LC.....:)  Yep......54 Izhevsk......what do you mean by covered LC? This popped up on GB for a very short period of time.....the seller hadn't posted any pics of the receiver cover......but with that serial number sequence...... :P

Because.....   With a heavy refurb like that, the cover could be off of literally any year or factory. Its VERY common for them to scrub and force match a cover during the refurb process.   Just the way it goes..

Oh...I don't doubt that for a minute. As with any other part that can be replaced. I guess I'm not following on this one. I mean....obviously it's a heavy re-furb and if the cover was scrubbed and re-stamped to match....it means...?
I thought you were saying that there was a chance it wasn't an Izhevsk.....but with that serial number being between

And

I wasn't too worried....
Here is the cover after I asked for the pic

Has there been some revelation on replaced covers? Just trying to tune in to what you're putting out.....Pat

Based off the serial having a postfix, I'm sure it is an izzy.

Im just saying that the covers on refurbs often do not match the gun year or even factory.   Finding a gun with a 53 marked cover but having 100% 50/51 early features and visa versa is the norm...

I'll offer my two cents (that is probably worth far less than $0.02):

If you have a mismatched/replaced-and-restamped receiver cover on an Izhevsk, the value simply evaporates. Sure, you know that this particular S/N prefix/suffix equates to an Izhevsk, I know that it does, and many here know that it does...but to your avg. Joe collector, the gun simply isn't a collectable Izhevsk w/o that arrow within a triangle on the stock and/or receiver cover.

Izhevsks are extremely well known and many collectors starting out keep their eyes peeled for them as Tula vs Izhevsk is one of the very first things they learn.  Relying solely on the receiver cover of a refurb to tell them what the gun is seems commonplace to me. They may not have had the time (or possibly the desire) to actually dig down and learn out all the nuances that can help differentiate the various flavor a of SKS45s.  I think that's why having a 'matching' receiver cover is important.
