Photos are going to be worth 1000 words in this case Bruce.  To post them, see this thread: How to post photos

Just from what you've given, it's not clear what number is actually stamped inside the triangle.  It sounds like it's a small shop build and if so, the S/N after the 18 will be quite low (under 10000).  Regardless, you likely have a 1973 gun there, but again, photos will allow a more accurate determination.  The P at the end of the S/N is likely an exporter added stamp to differentiate various batches of guns (that could easily have had the same low 18XXXXXX S/N.

KSI is also known as K-Sports Imports Inc.  They are known for having brought in guns with the famous "west coast rail" otherwise known as the "rail to nowhere" as no known commercial scope mount of the era is known to fit directly onto this rail.  Does your gun have a rail permanently affixed to the left rear of the receiver?  The neutered bayo lug you mention is also known to have been done by K-Sports.

See: K-Sports wood stocked custom rifles - Chinese SKS Guide and K-Sports composite. - Chinese SKS Guide for additional info.

Cool. Just saw one of these in the LGS the other day with the 16" barrel.  How long is your barrel?  Any pictures yet?

Boris

18" overall from chamber to end. Has the side mount. Never seen one before. Former owner drilled  the side mount off but still had it. Riveted on. Nice rifle but haven'shot it yet.

Boris

I can e mail pics for posting. Have intrude to post before with no luck.

Can not get pics to this. Need to send to your actual e mail. They are large so it will take several e mails. Sorry to be a pain.

Hey boris...  Did you try this yet?  How to post photos in Board Information - Page 1 of 1
I think RM took off for the woods earlier today.  Follow that link and if you cant figure it out, let me know.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

I thought about taking off to the woods too. Then I realized...hell, I'm already in the woods.  ???

Here you go Bruce.  Unfortunately the photos came in at low resolution (320x200), so they are gong to look like postage stamps.  Def a west coast rail.  Power Surge or XXX will probably be able to tell you a bit more about it I think.
