I wanted to make a separate post for detailed pics of my Polytech Hunter. This rifle is the most modified factory built SKS, and is really a beautiful firearm. This SKS was built at the Polytech arsenal, and the craftsmanship is nicer than any other commercial SKS I've owned. Even shooting this rifle, it just feels smoother, more solid, and the trigger is beautiful.

I've only had a chance to shoot it twice, and I had not yet fully broke it down. When shooting the other day, I realized there was still cosmo in it.... well actually, it was packed with more cosmo than I'd ever seen in an SKS. So tonight I did a full cleaning and decided to take detailed pics...

Receiver cover...rear serial has been milled flat.

Bolt carrier. Note the area where the serial usually is has been milled down....

This machined part of the bolt carrier is to clear the unique rear sight.

Bolt. Some good machining in this part.

Drop free mod for the modified magazine.

Firing pin and bolt parts. Notice the spring loaded firing pin! The bolt is machined in the rear for the spring to seat against.

Gas piston. Standard issue.

Gas tube. Has an old serial EPd in it, and was reblued over during build.

Underside of gas tube.

Action rod and spring. Standard issue.

Recoil rod and spring.

Highly modified stock magazine, that now sits flush with the stock and hold 5 rounds. Completely drops out the bottom with the bolt closed.

Another mag shot.

Trigger group. Stamped. Very very smooth action and trigger pull. Note the unique ambidextrous safety.

Ambidextrous safety.

Modified front sight block. Smoothed, and milled open shroud.

Front sling mount, takes the place of the cleaning rod hole.

Import marks. Very interesting. Didn't notice these before.

Arsenal and serial marking. Receiver is welded and milled prior to stamping.

Unique rear sight with adjustable windage and elevation.

Original barrel/receiver marks. Can still see the receiver stamp after milling.

Inside receiver.

Underside receiver. A few stamps there.

Bolt hold open.

Unique stock. Believe it's walnut.

Inverted receiver cover lever, and notched stock.

Hunter was sold with Uncle Mikes sling mounts front and rear.

Nicely done!  Great series of pictures to show all of the notable differences. Thanks.  thumb1

These are def badass...  Very nice example PS.

Are the bolts and carriers supposed to be blued?  Don't remember that...

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

I once owned a Poly Tech Hunter.  The bolt carrier was not blued.

Power Surge

It's not blue, just weird lighting. Same color as a regular Chinese.

Power that is just cooler than a Popsicle! I really like that rear sight, shame it wouldn't fit on any SKS without modification of the bolt. I'm left handed so that ambidextrous safety is an attractive proposition to me.

Congratulations PS, I'm envious!

Beautiful Hunter, Power Surge! I have #00737, and I love it. My Hunter is in brand new condition, and still in the Cosmoline. Part of me wants to clean it up and shoot it, but part of me likes having the new-in-Cosmo gun.

Is yours new in the box? Just curious if it came new with a sling, or just the mounts.

70Swinger440

It did come new in the box, but unfortunately, it is missing the sling and mounts. I see that Uncle Mike's still makes sling mounts that look the same as what they came with, so I need to pick up a pair.

XXXSKS

Never seen one in the box with a sling. I really don't think they came with a sling...

Hey Power Surge, if you get a chance, can you measure the width of the sling slot in the sling mounts? Thanks!

Of course :)  Mine are 1.25" wide.

70Swinger440

Thanks!  thumb1 I think I'm gonna bite the bullet, and clean the Cosmo out of my Hunter. Not sure if I'm going to shoot it, but it will be nice to be able to hold it and look at it without getting that crap all over my hands.

There is no way I could own one of those without shooting it. Pretty much a nifty different feature on many typical aspects of the SKS.

I really like the inverted take down relief on the stock....it is interesting how many variations on the stocks have been seen to utilize those funky levers.  This one is so precise compared to others...if Yugos had inverted levers...that is how I would think they would do it.

While I am generally not a fan of the neutered front sights, combined with the flush mount five round mag...they have an elegance about them I cannot deny that I find sexy.  Heck should I ever find myself in Kalifornia....I could even bring along a gun....that is if commercial variants were ever seen around here. Most didn't seem to make it this far inland. :(
