I only have a couple pics before my camera died...but she has a 90 degree gas block. All matching minus the missing magazine... :(  Spring loaded firing pin and I believe non chrome lined barrel.

Pics are finished.....this rifle is in pretty stinking good shape for 64 years old!  :o

I love the erroneous serial digit on the trigger guard. That must mean it's fake! Fraud! Buggered! Boinkered! Counterfeit! Piece of garbage! Humped!
Wait. My bad. This is a Russian gun. That means it's a legit factory mistake.

Good looking transitional '50. Nice score.

"I don't appreciate you showing Nazi images. My old lady's granddad died at Auschwitz."
"I'm sorry to hear that..."
"Yeah...he fell off a guard tower."

That's a real shame on that missing magazine :(  I wonder how badly that dings the price considering how the rest of the gun looks?

Still it was a nice gamble to take and you came out well!  What are the plans for this one?

I'm going to give it a whirl and try and find the original magazine.....I don't have much to go off of except it came outta Texas......and I have the shop it came from....we'll see....not holding my breath, but I do love a challenge! I would imagine it would affect it negatively quite a bit price wise.....but we'll see. Bayonet is coming soon for it. I will probably not keep it......Christmas is coming....lol.

Kewl...   I see alot of hardness tests going on with that bolt and carrier....

Is that what some of those stamps are from?

The round dots....  I think so.  RM has more on that

I want to say that the stamps on the bolt are partial "2's" maybe?  I couldn't even pretend to tell you what the mean though...

Hardness tests all leave telltale indicators in the metal being tested.  Vickers diamond indentations are very distinctive, but Rockwell and Brinell indentations often just look like small dots in the metal.

A Brinell hardness test on a small part like a bolt would likely use a 5mm carbide ball and something in the neighborhood of a 500kg force.  I would think they would test a nice easy to reach flat surface though, not down in the bottom of that slot.  It could be done though, they use tiny 1 mm balls and 1 kg forces in Europe from what I've read.

I thought they looked like partial 2's as well.....there are so many stamps on this rifle....good grief.  :o

Ok..yeah.   on my tablet now and they do look like the tops of 2s
