I had to post this one. A friend of mine was at a "mom and pop" gun store about an hour away and he called me when he left. He knew I was (fond) of the SKS's and he said there was an SKS on the rack with some cosmoline on it but he didn't know what it was. So I called the store and the old fella answered, I asked about the SKS and all he said was, "the tag say's Zastava M59"
and I don't know much about these, It's on consignment and my wife took it in a few months ago. I asked him if it had a grenade launcher on it? And the next quote was "Hell no", why would it have that? rofl. So now I'm LMAO and said I'll be right up. Behold, a Yugo M59 before my eyes, with cosmoline on it. So we talked and the price was $450.00 and after we talked more I told him I was retired military and he served in Korea, so after hitting it off I walked out of there with it for $365.00. I hope this don't get me the coveted "you suck" award, but if it does I understand. Pics are not great, it's cloudy but the stock and everything is in very nice shape. My only flaw I see is someone mis-marked the trigger guard by 1 number, other than that everything matches. Enjoy the pics!

I'm so jealous of you Dave bat1, that is a beauty. thumb1

Nice score! You done good! thumb1

Nice score! You done good! thumb1
Very nice! $450 was s good price, $365 is astonishing!
-
Spectacular find, Welder! Knowing nothing about Yugo's, I'd say that you made a great score! Clean almost new rifle, sweet!
-
Nice!
That black blade is sexy.....
-
Yeah.. I'll say it. you win todays "you suck" award chuckles1 It's not a bad award by any means...wear it as a badge of honor. thumb1
Mismarked trigger be dammed... I'd over look that..stress during refurb caused an error, and I cant see it when shooting it...it's all good in my book.
365 for a really....really nice M59 drool2 is pretty much unheard of these days........ the 450 and up is the norm. And being on consignment to boot....if one around here is put on consignment..they will not budge on price. nea1

Thanks all, I'll clean her up with mineral spirits in the next day or so, it's raining here, I don't want to disassemble it now. My shop is a mess and I'll do it on a better day and get a couple better pics after cleaning. thumb1

You scored pretty hard. GOOD GOING. PAX
-
I’ll echo everything already said. You did extremely well. thumb1
That trigger group may have been swapped with the group from the gun ten spots away too. Many of these were crated in sequential order 10-20 at a time and it’s not unthinkable that more than one gun was apart and the wrong hardware managed to get installed back on this one. Numbers on a yugo don’t deserve the same consideration with respect to price as they do on say a Russian SKS45 in my book.

I'll just say.... clap1 clap1 clap1 clap1

Beautiful ! We used to see posts like this every other week. Now if we see one every other month were lucky. You scored ! These things are becoming a hard to find item these days.Especially in that shape and price. Go donate to wounded warriors or your favorite charity to keep the karma going rofl2 chuckles1
-
Very nice specimen... Are there any numbers on the side of the inner magazine when you drop the outer? Does it match the trigger housing number?

Yes, but it doesn't match the trigger. It appears to be 3 digits, 681 or 687. It's electro-pencil. I didn't see that before!

I give to "Shriners" childrens hospital and St. Judes every month! I'm a "Life" member of the D.A.V. and pay to them as well yearly!!! thumb1

Those are the “assembly numbers”. They should also match each other, except, of course, on your mismatched trigger group.

So it's safe to say, it's "mostly" a matching rifle? Not that it really matters much, but I really appreciate this info!!! thumb1 I'm sure it'll be a nice shooter, "I hope"...

I keep coming back and looking at this one....
Now I'm thinking I need to find one.

You all are "REALLY" gonna hate me... I got a call today, from the shop I purchased the Yugo from, "because I asked them if they got any more SKS's in" From the woman who owns the shop and they said they just got in a Chinese SKS. She said they bought it "Cheap" because it was missing the bayonet. Sooooooooo..... I now own it... $300.00, out the door... I'll post it on the Chinese side tomorrow! I just "DON'T EVER" have this kind of luck!!! :o :o :o. Oh, It has a triangle arsenal stamp 636 and serial# is in the 22 millions. I've never bought 2 guns in 3 days. :o

The general rule on the M59 unlike all others is if the Receiver, Stock, Bolt, and Bolt carrier match, then its all matching. Sounds like you got the hook up at the mom and pop gun store : ) 300.00 for any SkS is pretty cheap. Yeah post up pics of that bad boy chi com : )

And yes.. pictures please...

No serial numbers on the trigger, cover, and mag is normal... your seeing production assembly numbers prior to the rifle being serialized.

For certain. If you look at the number stamped (or sometimes ep’d) at the bottom of the barrel lug, they will likely all match.
Nice on the 22 mil /636\ pickup. $300 is an excellent price. You can pick up a spike bayo for that badboy pretty easily these days for ~$35 or so. thumb1

A 365 Yugo M59...300 Chinese 636.. thumb1
So..uhm, errr... where might this..shop be at.. lets just clear the air..think1 rofl2 chuckles1

The bayonet lug has been milled off! Pic's today when it gets light out... As soon as I get a few pics, I'll post it in the Chinese forum.

Today was cosmoline removal day and I'm sure most of you have "been there" 3 hours and a half gallon of mineral spirits later "with" a can of brake clean for the tiny holes and places...
Stock cleaned and wiped with furniture polish, everything got a new fresh light coat of CRC and gun oil. She's as pretty as a new car! I shot it about an hour ago, things were "very stiff".
Action was very sluggish but did loosen up. The gun is tight. after some sight adjustment and 60 rounds I was doing about 3" groups at 50 yards. I'm Quite happy with it, A couple hundred more rounds and she'll be fully ready and capable! Enjoy the pics.

Looks good thumb1
-
Purrrrty! I'm think I probably would've kept it in the cosmo on that one, probably.
-
Looks great. I'm jealous.
-
Neat. I've never seen a M59 before, in person. I've only seen M59/66s..
-
I was at a gun store in Sacramento wednesday and they had a M59 that was all beat up for 699.00 chuckles1
You did good. M59 is the most accurate sks if you ask me. Non chrome bbl and the smell of cosmoline while on the cheek at aim is the advantage among all others .

Yeah I remember seeing that thing on Allens Armoury website bout 5 years ago or so. It sat there and sat there for about 2 or 3 weeks. You scored big on that. I was still wondering what those things were back then. Ooooh Boy.. That is the one isn't it ?
-
Yup, that's the same one... both actually came from Alan's Armory.. :)

This thread really is spank-a-rific.
