Title: CAI P-64
Post by: Witchywoman on February 04, 2026, 02:51:34 PM
P-64 came in two days ago from CAI. These were in their FFL listings until I informed them on their C&R status. They quickly added them to the C&R corner which was nice of them.

Right off the bat, while they are listed as very good I feel like I got a better one. Just very faint finish wear at the muzzle edge  from a holster. I would say that stock, its about the heaviest double action pull I have encountered but wow am I amazed at the single action pull. The SA pull is light and thats an understatement. Hair trigger? close. I did order a wolff hammer spring and a recoil spring. Will see if that helps the way heavy DA pull at all. The DA pull reminds me of the horrid Nagant revolver pull. Its about 2-3 times that of a Makarov DA pull.

Mine is a 1971 and does have the "A" marking on the frame. I guess after 1973 they went to a triangular hammer to make manual cocking easier.

Some more proof,

One thing I did notice is this handgun has a midway point on the decocker which completely disables the trigger, and being a big SA fan. Thats a very nice feature. It has the ability to be carried that way and a sweep of the thumb and your ready to shoot. Most small com-block pistols do not have that capability except for the CZ82 as far as I know (I dont consider the tokarev or CZ52 small). That makes it even more appealing to me. I noticed a lot of people arguing about this fact on the net about the P-64 but I tested it out quite a few times and the trigger is fully disconnected in the 75% downward position and there is an internal detent to further prove that, you can feel it click in place before engaging the decocker just before de-cocking.

This defeats the ignorant armchair generals I have seen on the net stating that its not safe to carry these cocked and locked or say that this feature does not exist on the P64.

"The slide features a loaded chamber indicator (which, both visually and by feel, indicates the presence of a round in the chamber) and a manual safety lever that prevents the weapon from being accidentally discharged with the hammer either cocked or released. This feature also allows a round to be chambered with the safety engaged or toggled off. In the "safe" position, the firing pin is locked and the trigger bar is disconnected from the hammer notch."

That makes this little classic com-bloc handgun even more appealing to carry if one wished.

These definitely have a very have DA trigger. I have four of them and they're all that way. The single action is not light but reasonable on all of mine. Sounds like something is not quite in as-issued condition on yours if it's a hair trigger.

I used these wolf springs to reduce the recoil as I was tearing up my middle up from the mini mule kick .. Nice collection you have there...
