Title: Can anyone tell me what country this stock is from?
Post by: John Galt on February 01, 2015, 09:50:32 AM
To me, it seems to be Romanian, single butt plate hole and a blade cut.  I hope the carvings tell a story!

Looks quite a bit like a Sino-Banian stock.  There were some other guys on gunboards pushing that these were Romanian stocks, but other than a similar appearance, there is simply no evidence that Albania received stocks from Romania.

The Alby replacement stocks are well documented and there is no reason to believe that a country that could produce it's own Model 561 SKS couldn't produce a slightly different stock intended to fit Chinese Type 56 SKSs in their inventory.

I forgot to mention that the sling swivel is on the bottom.  Does that mean anything?  Do the words/names indicate a country of use, if not origin?

The Albanians made a Beech wood replacement stock for the chinese rifles that were blade cut with bottom sling swivels as RM outlined above.  Many of these rifles have trench-art and is 'one' of the indicators as to where they were imported from.    As usual, a quick google search comes up with alot of albanian slovic hits of your stock markings.

Thanks for all the help guys :)  I was just heading to do a google search but wanted to check my new favorite place to hang out!!!

Sometimes I get so excited and "involved" in a particular item that I forget about the all important Google!

Looks like several names on facebook.... I found an Albanian name on one of my rifles and it looks like the guy may be on facebook also.  Adam tried to contact him for me but there was never a reply.

Hi,

I was looking over the sino-banian stock and noticed a cloth patch in the cleaning kit area under the trap door.  It was about 5" x 5" and off white in color.  It did not have any writing on it and did not look like it was used to clean anything.  Any ideas?  My guess was a little packet for some "pre-fight adrenaline booster" if you know what I mean.

Also, this stock has the "belly" in the area of the bayonet cut.  I remember reading about this belly but can't remember what significance it has, possibly the year it was made.

Thanks

John
