Title: Needing help with identifying recent purchase
Post by: Papahound on May 08, 2025, 05:35:28 PM

Found a Chinese sks local that I’ve never seen , appears to be the same length as a para , no s/n on bolt or stock , kinda rough but cheap , no bayonet either and sling is also different from the ones I’ve seen ?

Any help would be appreciated  thumb1

Wow, that's an early one. Haven't seen one with a 10rnd mag, is it OEM to the rifle? Anyway, here's a link to the SKSguide site for info on your carbine. https://chinesesks.weebly.com/polytech-hunter.html

Also, that is a new number for the database.

Cool git. Those have  decent mods. I especially like the adjustable rear peep, congratulations on a scarce one. PAX

Polytech Hunters don't show up all that often.  If you haven't gotten it already, and it's as cheap as you say, then it's a good buy even w/o the modified 5 rd magazine that it's supposed to have.  That's a huge value ding IMO, but these things are so few and far between that even a bubba'd PT Hunter is worth owning for the right price.  thumb1

Edit: Nevermind, I see your title says you already purchased it.   chuckles1  I need to learn to read before posting! :)  How much did it set you back?

I traded a Norinco with a French tickler and $100 cash , $500 total , 10 round magazine is definitely a replacement , just adding something different , shop owner said he had never seen one , it functioned as it should , I have seen them sale for more on the internet 👍

Even though the stock 5 round mag is proprietary to the Hunter (rivets), you could get away with a scrubbed/blank (no "Made in China" stamp) fiver. It'd be deceitful but more accurater. PAX

I was thinking the same thing PAX.  Exact same thing!  Would look sharp with one of these.

I've got one on my "Canadian Deer Stalker" build. 18.5", Mojo rear site, neutered front globe, scrubbed 5 round mag all in Butler Creek furniture. Very clean, quick handling. PAX

You could always cut down the 10 to get a 5 if you so desired

Save the 10, get a 5 if needed/desired. The Hunter was the inspiration for my build. PAX

I do have an original correct Polytech Hunter magazine in my collection I might be willing to sell to help complete this rifle. Shoot me a PM if you are interested.
