Title: Need help with a Springfield M1 Garand
Post by: 100Acre on April 19, 2025, 11:48:45 PM
My buddy’s father passed away and he’s looking to sell his M1, but he doesn’t know the value and I’ve looked up some past sales on gun broker, but I have no idea how to value it or really even know much about M1 grand in general. Here’s a few pictures. He sent me if you guys could help I would greatly appreciate any advice as to, approximate value or year produced, etc. thank you.
Is the butt stock plate made of wood and what’s with the front sight?

The front sight is a replacement. Restoring it back won't be hard. You'll need a swivel too. The buttplate is so rusty that it'd make sense to replace it for sale, IMO.

Lockbar sights are a plus.

For the reasonable estimate, need more info. How are the barrel measurements? Bore condition? Barrel date? Does it match the WW2 receiver? Any pics of the "stuff on the inside" , i.e. Trigger group, op rod, etc. Uncommon parts will increase value. Pitting under wood line?

CZ covered most of it well. Does it have an import mark?

The agreed on price is $550. The bayonet lug was ground off. The bore is dirty but ok, the butt plate needs replacing and the front sight and hand guard need replacing too. Looking at parts online it’ll probably cost another $500 to get it back to original

That price definitely gives you some room to get the parts you need and come out the other side with a good serviceable WWII SA M1  thumb1
