Was working on a Russian SKS I picked up from Huntinkillin and came across something that struck me as odd. I was stripping down the bolt for cleaning and the pin looked different than what I'm used to seeing. First let me say that the receiver, bolt, and bolt carrier are all matching as to SN, but that does not mean to say that the pin could have possibly been replaced. Anyway, I went to yooper John's site to check on pin designs and only found this design matched with the Chinese stamped receiver variant. The Russian is a refurb and appears to be a '53-'54 Tula. Not sure as it is not all present and correct.(no stock, chinese receiver cover, mismatched mag)
Here are a couple of pics; Anyone see this style firing pin in their Russian SKSs before? Have I just not seen this type but it is common??

Hey GG, is this gun an import from one of the big 4 Russian importers in the 92-96 timeframe? (CAI, NHM, KBI, or CDI).
If not, and there's an IO or TGI stamp on the barrel under the gas tube, it's a recent Albanian import and all bets are off. Anything could be swapped out in it by the Albanian 'armorers'.

Just looked, it's a KBI import.
I should add that I'm not worried about it. It is just for reference sake that I found it unusual to have the style pin in it that it has. Not like any other I've ever seen. Especially in a Russian.
No who put that in thar or when.. :-\

I got it from Huntinkillin from over on the 'other' board and that's the way he got it. I have had some other guys show the same style pins in their '54-'55 Russians. For all the SKSs I.ve had apart you would think that I had seen one like this before, but this is the first vertical flat style firing pin I have seen. All the others have been horizontal 2 sided and the triangle three sided pins.
Looks like a standard issue Russian pin to me.
