Title: Help Finding Extended Mag Release
Post by: Retrogrouch71 on January 13, 2025, 09:47:52 AM
I spent some time looking over this site to see if there was anything which would answer my question, but I couldn't find anything current. So, I was hoping y'all might point me in the right direction. I am searching for a "trigger style" extended magazine release for my Type 56 SKS and cannot seem to find much on the market today. I found this one...

...but it would cost around $75 after shipping. :o Yikes! Does anyone know of any other hook/trigger style mag release currently available that would be reasonably priced? Anyone have one they don't want? I'm looking for something like one of these...

Or, perhaps you know someone in the St. Louis, MO area that can do a small spot welding job? I have a steel part ready to be welded onto an OEM mag release, if that's my only option.

Thank you!

The second one in your picture is from Gould Engineering & Machining/VermontCNC (was a sponsor (https://sks-files.com/index.php?board=72.0) here many moons ago but honestly haven't seen him around in years)

Here is his webpage for SKS: http://vermontcnc.com/sks---ak47.html  Looks like you'll have to email him to get prices and availability.

Tell him SKS-Files says "Hi."  thumb1

Magwedge is out of Canada which would be part of the problem on cost with them. They make good stuff though. The other item is from Gould Engineering as mentioned. The only other option would be the old Tapco plastic mag release. I saw one the other day on GunBroker for sale.
If you end up welding a hook extension on I suggest buying an extra mag release and maintaining your OEM part in case you decide to return it to original status.

Thanks for the replies and the link to Gould Engineering. I've already heard back from them and it looks like they're going to be doing another run of these stainless steel extended mag releases in late January or early February. So, if anyone wants one, now's the time to contact them!

*** UPDATE - FOR THOSE INTERESTED ***

I just ordered my Gould Engineering extended magazine release for SKS rifle (1 piece stainless steel, CNC machined). Pricing for me was $50 shipped. https://vermontcnc.com/
