Dropped by the LGS on the way home from work Friday afternoon to see if they had any milsurps. They just picked up four Type 56s from their supplier and were offering them for $300. I was certainly willing to pay that for a matching example. Looking through them they had a couple of mixmasters and two potential matching carbines. One was a "G" letter gun with a handguard that had wood different from the stock and the stock was a bit gnawed on in spots. The other possible match was the ghost shown below. It's a fairly early (first 20% of the SN range) ghost with what appears to be a nice Russian birch stock with a lot of the shellac remaining. Took it apart and cleaned thoroughly and it's full matching down to the EPd gas tube and piston! The stock isn't perfect but the best I have and there is some surface rust on the exposed pieces. It contrasts with my other Type 56s in that, below the wood line the bluing is perfect and rust free. I'm a happy camper :)

That's real nice, especially for that price!
Always love trench art, where you can look it up and actually find something, Nice one. Reminds me of my sino/Albanian with the Albanian city of Permet engraved on it.
Beautiful wood too, congrats! :)
Noice.... original arsenal 21 stamped stock also. thumb1
Cannon likey!
I love that stock!!
P32 that's a fine looking carbine! Do you think there is any significance to the arrow-like lines on the right side of the butt stock or is that merely a coincidence?
Thanks guys!

Danny, that appears to be some rather poorly executed trench art :)) but other than my art critique, I have no idea about its meaning.
Thanks Phosphorus. This adds to the mystery but that's one of the fascinating aspects of our little carbine critters!
Nice man. These Ghosts grabbed a special spot in my collection with a quickness. Glad that /21\ didn't get scratched through. I ended up with 1 matching stock with a /21\.
Congrats thumb1
Cool fact of the day...
Before being named Jianshe in April 1957 and getting the /\ around the 26, the arsenal was just 26. Prior to that it was 296. Prior to that it was arsenal 21... Chinas largest small ams facility during and after WW2 :)
Another cool fact of the day:
I like that stock thumb1
See, no one knew that fact..

I did not know that. Cool stuff!
I would have picked that one up too! Very nice...
You already know what I think of that gun Jon. I also think you got a smokin' deal on it. This type of gun is the one that is going to appreciate best out of all the Sino-Banians in the years to come! thumb1
