Title: My 91/59
Post by: Witchywoman on October 22, 2024, 02:24:19 PM
I bought this Nagant during the pentacle of C&R collecting when rifles were dirt cheap around 2004-2014

when I first started collecting I had managed to acquire two 91/30s. One was a mint Tula from 1942 and one was a 1939 Finn capture. I also had an Izhevsk M44 dated 42 that was mint and a laminated stock M38 that was mint on the outside but counter bored. During a rough financial patch I sold everything but my 91/59 which is what you see here. I knew when i bought it that it was one of the more special and rare Nagants and I will never seel it nor will I ever sell any gun again even if I were in threat of being in the street. LOL The only mod I did was add a buttstock stripper clip pouch which easily comes off. I love this rifle. When I bought it I believe it probably sat in an armory after conversion from 91/30s and was never shot until I did so. I have been working on acquiring a lot of what I lost. I really miss my M38 because the stock had a tiger strip in the wood grain that I have not seen since. At least I still have this one and its all matching.

Very crisp! I had a mess of nice Big 5 Mosin 91/30s over the decades. They and the SKSs have been great barter-fodder over the years. I traded 2 ratty ATI stocked SKSs and 2 Mosins for and SVT40 that I was helping my FFL bud at a show. A lot of tire kickers on the SVT but no bites by closing Sunday. He was able to move all 4 rifles I swapped for more than he was asking for the SVT, so everyone was happy. I'm down to an M38, M44 and 2 Finns all WWII era in great shape. Since 2018-19, at the height of the plague panic, I moved most of my dupes and mismatched rifles, and concentrated on going after Com-bloc SKSs, Paratroopers and FN49s  8). PAX

You got a nice batch of FN49's  too . the SVT 40 has always been on my list of most wanted. Now go out and try to acquire an AVS-36. ;)

Nice! The M91/59s are desirable to shooters and collectors alike. The somewhat heavier barrel profile due to being M91/30s cut down to M38 configuration makes them a favorite with the shooters looking for a handy bolt action brush gun.

Very nice 91/59 example!  My 1943 91/59 looks much the same but with serial number пг7106. Like you, I bought all my Mosin Nagants back when they first started coming in. This one's still unfired since import. Actually, to my discredit, all mine are still unfired since import. I just put them back and never got around to shooting them. How does yours shoot? I heard that they have quite the fireball and report? What kind of distances do you like to shoot with it?

I have the 91/59, a M38, and several variations of the 91/30. I had an awesome M44 in the deep Tula red, perfect condition, etc. I took it to a gun show where a friend had set up a table. I just wanted to see what kind of interest would be shown. I left it there on the table with him and left the show to run some errands and when I came back, he had traded my M44 for an old Turkish Mauser! My friend had done a lot for me, had sold a lot of guns, etc.,
but I still to this day, shake my head in disbelief. He could have traded for two of those Mausers and I'd still be disappointed. It was an exceptional specimen.   dntknw1

As an aside, what kind of ammo do you prefer to shoot? Most will say whatever they can get. Just curious if anyone shoots a particular type because of XYZ...
