Last Friday before I took a long weekend at the lake, I hit a local shop up, and found a Yugo M98/48 for a decent price. It has a frosty bore with nice strong rifling, forced matched bolt, no corrosion anywhere, a decent example overall, the more I checked it, the weirder it got. There is no import stamp.. I expected an I.O., Samco or CAI stamp somewhere....but I have yet to find any stamp. Yugoslavia had captured K98's and got war reparations after the war, they refurbed them and stuck them in storage, this variation was Yugo refurbed prior to 1950.. So that should eliminate bring backs. I have another M98/48 that is import stamped and has the crest stamped on the receiver, there is no receiver crest stamp on this one. It's still a classic German K98 with red glue laminated stock, just basically sanitized. as for the lack of import stamps,, P32 suggested a border hopper or possibly a pre '68 import...

No stamps under the wood line on the receiver.

Love the old yugo warhorses. They don't get near the respect they deserve (which is ok as it keeps the prices and demand down somewhat if you're a buyer).
Nice one GM. Glad you can still find stuff like this in your neck of the woods. Over here it's mostly plastic stocks and red dots I'm sad to say.
As an aside, there are new laws coming on the books in NM every day it seems (new waiting period law breezed right on through the legislature a couple months ago), we will be as bad as Washington state soon I fear.
Thanks, pickins are slim here as well, all this new fangled tackykool boring stuff is flooding in everywhere. once and a while an crusty rusty oldie but a goodie appears. If a caliber doesn't end in Creedmore, PPC, ARC, SPC, Socom, Legend or what ever the kiddies shoot these days... your just an old antiquated man whos holding up progress. rofl2 chuckles1
On some of the laws I see, and things being done bat1 I'm just quickly gonna sum it up and say.. I didn't vote for this.. and leave it at that, and go hide in my darkened corner..
