Enabled by GM, I ordered one of the stocks offered by a Polish collector/vendor. I decided to drop my spare refurbished 1954 Izhevsk into the stock. The bluing is excellent on this Izhevsk, so that was a bonus. The stock was a recycled Tula, partially scrubbed and numbered to match in the Arsenal 109, Irkutsk fashion with a color mismatched handguard. In any event, that's my rationale for why it was a good donor for the Polish honor guard stock.
The stock is very nice and has never been on an SKS-45, as I had to hand fit both the stock and handguard. The stock I simply had to slowly relieve a bit of wood with a chisel so the rear tang would slip in and the crossbolt drop into place on the barrel. The handguard needed adjustment in overall length and around each of the ferrules. I slowly worked those areas for a nice tight fit.
The beech laminate stock has a number on the hidden face of the buttplate, "17", and the buttstock has a "1.03" which I am guessing is the month and year, January 2003, of manufacture of this replacement stock. There are no other letters, numbers or markings that I can find. I'm pleased with how this Samopowtarzalny Karabinek Simonowa turned out. 8) Hope you enjoy it thumb1

Those four semi-circular holes are quite distinctive. The stock is also thicker. It feels great in my long-fingered hands.

Some appear to have their tips blunted/rounded so that might shorten them a few mm.

Sir, very nice! The matching handguard is a rare find. Congrats!
Thanks PC! That cinched the deal. It’s a fairly pricey package but with the correct handguard, all the hardware, and both wood pieces in mint condition, I was willing to pay up.

Laugh, watch that GM! He's still waiting for the pony express to round the bend at his place carrying this carbine. He might be waiting a while...

Don’t know where those Pony Express guys ended up…maybe they got bushwhacked outside of Cheyenne stickup1 :o chuckles1

I found an authentic Polish Honor Guard rifle, aka SKS-M (modified) on Facebook, that is owned by a person in Poland. Here's some information he provided:
Owner: Marcin from Warsaw, Poland, 2018 post. “In the picture is my fresh recently purchased SKS made in Tula, USSR in 1953. Originally modified for Representative Battalion of the Polish Army (Honor Guard Battalion). The original Polish name is SKS "M (modified). The original stock is replaced by beech plywood. Bayonet and bolt are polished and finished with nickel as well as the butt plate. This rifle is still in service in some Honor Guard Units in Poland " however they are being displaced by new introduced Polish MSBS vel “Grot” (Modular Small Arms System, aka “Arrowhead”)”.
2022 comment: “We have auctions organized in Poland by the Military Property Agency, https://amw.com.pl/en If you have a license you can go and buy old but still nice equipment from rifles, to helis, tanks and old, not planned for future use, weapons. Some of the goods like pistols, ammo or rifles etc. can then be sold on the civilian market. The SKS is not the most popular in Poland but IMHO the SKS has "soul". Still, in Poland the most popular are AK clones and now AR15 type rifles. Mine is strictly a "collection one" and rarely used on the shooting range. But this is one of the prettiest ones I have.”
(https://i.ibb.co/n3XwWV5/Polish-HG-Tula-1953.jpg) (https://ibb.co/k3LGdrW)
He only shared one picture. I thought it was interesting that it's a 1953 Tula. Internet hearsay from an old Gunboards post and Wikipedia is that the Poles received/purchased 1954 SKS-45s, some say only Tulas, and some say purchased them in 1954. The purchased in 1954 scenario, where the purchases included old inventory, not just new production, is the only plausibly true scenario from those choices, given this data point on a purported 1953 Tula.
Zow! Bravo Zulu!

Just a follow up note. I’ve also ordered some grips for a CZ 27 pistol from him. In brief email conversations I learned that Marcin has taken in a couple of refugee families, two mothers and two children, the men presumably stayed behind in Ukraine to fight. If you need anything from his menu, I’d encourage you to consider a purchase thumb1 :)

I used Wise for my two transactions with him. It was fairly easy to sign up, and seems secure. Marcin communicated within a day or less (9 hour time difference for me on the west coast).

Someone on GunBroker has butt plates to match that stock as they are sans the cleaning kit hole. Have them labeled as East German/DDR but nevertheless, they will work.

Marcin is great to deal with thumb1 I had an issue with a shipment of posters from Russia being rejected by US Customs a couple of months ago. Didn’t cost me a penny but the seller lost their shipping cost. There’s no way I would order gun parts, or anything, from Russia right now. I doubt that you’ll have any issues with an item from NATO ally Poland.

I’d already upgraded my ‘54 Izhevsk slot :) so it was good fortune that I was slow in selling off this one, as it turned out to be a good donor for the Polish stock.

So did Poland restock Russian SKS to make these? Or did they manufacture anything else or entire gun?
Anyone know about Hungarian and other countries' honor guard? I know the Croatian were just 5966 with the emblem in stock.

Poland never made an SKS, just the stock. They bough Russian SKS-45s and restocked them. They may have chromed the blade bayonet too.
There are credible rumors of Hungarian made parts for the SKS, but they didn't make receivers or whole guns.
The Slovenian Protokol and Croatian Honor Guard rifles were Yugoslavian M59/66-A1s, as you pointed out for the Croatian. The Slovenian Protokol rifle has a new stock and handguard with chrome-plated bits, so different but really just cosmetic changes.
