Title: RTI C-GRADE
Post by: Marshall-law on December 25, 2014, 03:39:27 PM
I had to try a RTI C-grade. Here is what I got. Receiver and gas tube match. Trigger, mag, cover and bolt match. Stock appears to be marked with a E after the number, maybe. It came with a cleaning rod and a used patch in the buttstock. Here are some pic. Merry Christmas! As to the stock s/n, I'm guessing an "8" or a "6" .  It's not an "E", but those stock s/n's can be very hard to read. :)

Could be I guess. Looks a little flat on top. Here are some pic's of some inspection marks in side stock. I agree its most likely not a E. Maybe your guesses, or a 5.

I'd say its a '3'. The ghost and early /26\ threes were flat topped like that:

Neat on the internal inspection marks. You don't see those on all stocks.  Is there a triangle 21 or a star stamp anywhere on the stock?  There are some star stamps that have been noted inside stocks in those internal areas where you proof marks are too...

In one of the photos is a pic of the bottom of the barrel that has a stamped upside down V then 7314. Is that a SN#?

Our best guess is that the under-barrel number is some kind of a barrel lot or barrel heat treat #.  There are blocks of similar S/N'd guns that have identical barrel numbers that we've tracked in the survey.  These barrel numbers continue to be stamped all the way through at least 1966 and the early short lug guns before they are gradually phased out.

Are you planning on repairing the crack in the stock? It looks like one you could do fairly easy.

Yes I plan on repairing it. I like keeping my milsurp as is.   thumb1
