Title: Trapdoor Russian laminate stock no spring tension
Post by: SteveinUT on July 14, 2021, 08:25:40 PM
Before I pull the buttplate off to check I thought I'd ask.... my trapdoor has no spring tension. This is on a Russian laminated stock. I can see the spring inside that pushes the cleaning kit out, but is there a spring specifically for the trapdoor? I looked on a schematic and it didn't show one. Thanks!

Yes, it's on the trapdoor. On one of mine it's all about how tight the butt plate screws are but you can find a replacement if need be.

OK, thanks Bob! I found a two-legged spring on Ebay, I think, that should be for it. I'll pull off the buttplate and take a look and see if it's broken or if it's because the screws are too tight.

Sometimes those springs break or rust right through even though the outside of the door and buttplate look good. Just one of those weird quirks. If you can’t find just the spring, replacement doors are plentiful and still relatively cheap. A new one may not match the existing bluing though.
