Goooood evening all you sks fans. Thought I would drop a pic or two of one of my fave commercial variants. I bring to you my NR that I found in the back of the closet.

If my MC-5D would have been an NR I never would have sold it. Just didn't care for the modified standard type FCG/Mag catch as it was a weak link.
Anyway, very nice specimen of a Commercial SKS thumb1
Very nice NR! Dare say, I'd be bummed if I had sold it off a few years ago!
Very nice sir. Reminds me of my Labanu Sporter in several respects.
Nice thumb1...Interesting...Wonder why it doesn't have the usual NR stock, far as I knew, the NR used 2 styles of thumbhole stocks.
Yeah..one of 2 commercial ones I have.. :o

As far as I know there are two different stocks on an NR, one from the '93 and early '94 series, and then one for the late '94 series. Both are thumbhole stocks with the differences between the two in the foregrip (early slab side identical to a model 63 stock, later ones look very much like a std foregrip with finger grooves that are identical to a model 93 stock) This one from BMont looks like an M stock was put on his NR at some point in time?
Here's some great photos from XXX on our weebly pages:

Well, it appears someone either replaced the stock or we found a new version of the NR import. Either way it looks nice.
Hey guys... on lunch break at work. I have two NR's and the one in the photo I still have the original styrofoam insert from the box with accessories. I know they are all put together so maybe this is a new version not sure. Will post the pic of it together when I get home.
As long as it came out of the closet... whistle12 wink1
I will say that stock looks eerily similar to the M model stock.

Good looking NR, however it came from the factory. The stock is pretty much identical to the two "M" stocks that I have. But that doesn't mean anything absolute when it comes to the commercial Chinese SKS', for sure. If you have the original box for the NR, does it by chance have any tags or nomeclature on it that identifies it? Sometimes the smallest things help in clearing up theories.
The stock on the NR that GM posted was probably the most comfortable, ergonomic of all the Thumbhole stocks, in my experience. My opinion only. I had a SKS-63 with that stock on it and liked how it felt.
Anybody have any theories or WAG's as to what the "NR" stood for? I know the "D" was supposed to designate "Detachable", "M" for Monte Carlo, and "MC-5D" for Monte Carlo 5rd Detachable. But "NR", "63", "93"? dntknw1

And a few more.
I tend to think... since they are commercial that these are the M stocks. Not sure which came first the chicken or the NR? But in any event I have two of this odd ball variant. I like these stocks alot... much more then the normal NR with the thumb holio
As long as it came out of the closet... whistle12
LOL... eventually all my little pretties come out of the closet!

A friend of mine told me the NR stood for not reliable with ak mags. lol. Ive not had a problem with any chi com ak mag. Snaps right in. Polymer.... hit or miss.
Interesting.. maybe it's the super secret Chinese unknown closet hybrid variant.. an MNR... Maybe Not Right.. sorry.. :o rofl2 rofl2
I saw one a long time ago in an auction... just always figured the owner swapped stocks.. It was stamped as an NR with the M stock..
Being it's a ban era commercial SKS and came with low cap mags... NR might just be a Chinese jab... No Right's
Those serial numbers are outside XXX's range when he collected the info I think. It could well be a factory stock. The styrofoam in the box is cut for a thumbhole stock though. It may be that as the last of these we rolling off the line that they put whatever stocks (93's, M's etc) they could scrounge and that explains the discrepancy. Would need a few more examples before I'd lean one way or the other though. Neat ones for certain though. thumb1

I think it is the MCV.... my closet variant...haha... Commercial... its probably what others have said... they put whatever stock they had there at the time on it... they probably didnt care they just wanted those greenbacks.

I'd say that sounds about right. thumb1
They knew we'd buy 'em regardless of the stock. So they looked around, found what they had available in a warehouse and put it on.
Yessir, you nailed it!
Could be they were supposed to be Ms, but they pulled the wrong barreled receiver for assembly(standard instead of short gas system) so they just stamped them as NRs instead.(Not Rated) rofl rofl
