Title: The 1961 "6m".... saved
Post by: Loose}{Cannon on December 12, 2014, 10:04:57 AM
Most of you guys know just how hard it is to find a 6m 1961... there have only been about 6-7 examples observed in the US.  I bought this one at a decent price and saved it from the wrath of bubba.

Enjoy

The auction shiwing the state in which I bought it.

And here she is now....    :)

What a pile of junk.

Lol kidding, nice work. Saved is right.. There's a special fuzzy feeling I get when I see before & after pics of an SKS, (Only when bubba is the before, though!  wink1 )

She looks at peace now  thumb1

Now it looks worth a heck of a lot more than you paid for it---one question though--whats the two letters stamped after the serial #---

I have no idea what those letters mean, but there are several examples I have seen and I dont believe they were applied by an importer.

Hmmmm.. Thinking cap is ON.

Did they have different importers do you know? And if they did, did they still share the letters?

Different importers AND both having letters at the end would point them more towards not being importer marked-prefix letters.

I'm leaning against importer marks too anymore.  I've seen numerous examples from out of the US that indicate these are Chinese applied, but not during manufacture.  For what reason…who knows?! silly1

Thanks..  its a pretty sexy mofo.    I'll do a test fire and then retire it next to the other 22.   rofl

I was wondering when this one would show up after you got it.  Is it a B-West with the micro stamp like we suspected?

How big is the pile of discarded ATI's getting at your house?  rofl

As usual, you did a sweet restoration job!  thumb1

Yup same micro B west stamp, its very very light as I could prolly remove it in a few seconds.   :o

Actually....  this is the first plastic stock thats ever been in my house and I dunno what the heck to do with it.

I have a couple of those Monte ATI's one that is loose fitting and just flat out sucks...another that looked brand new...I put a short rail at the fore end...meh, it is useable with a bipod at least.  They are heavy as hell, look like hell and both reside in a hidden corner of my bedroom...someday, I may come up with some ridiculous idea for their use...but, most likely if I ever have to sell an SKS.  :o

Not bloody likely.

I have two B-Wests, one being that 64 spiker...the other being the DB.  Both have the two letters added after the serial, and they both appear to have that added later.  ML and BP respectively.  Considering both have that almost invisible import stamp, it seems less likely they would haphazardly and crookedly stamp two giant letters vs. a couple of barely visible, but legal alterations to the serial.  think1

It really would be cool to figure out whether that was a stateside thing or some kind of designation for something done over there.  I have two with single letter suffixes, and another with a single letter prefix.  All appear to have had these stamped later, and might suggest something other than having anything to do with the serial.

If someone could locate anyone working for the importers back in the 90's that could confirm or deny they were done like this stateside for duplicate serials that would be nice.  I would think two letters must mean something other than to mark it as a duplicate serial.   What is the likelihood of having more than 26 duplicate serials on any number of imported guns?

I would like to see how letter suffixes/prefixes match up to various importers...if it seems as if certain practices match up to a specific importer, that could almost answer it within a less speculative range.  If it is all over the place with no relation to importer, then it is back in China's court again...and the mystery continues.

Hah!  Just came up with an idea for the ATI Monte stock...they would be ideal on tubin' float trips, both as an oar and a push off stick...the checkering is in the right places.  It might even work as an anchor.  chuckles1

Then again, you could figure out a way to crack it that doesn't look intentional, send it back to ATI for replacement (they will) and have a brand new one to sell off somewhere just short of retail.

Is that what this thing is it came with?...  ans ATI stock?

It's either that or the Combat Exchange equivalent. (ATI will warranty that too) They are the heaviest at 47.9 ounces of all the aftermarket stocks...edging out their version of the Dragonov stock, and even their Strikeforce stock by a few ounces.

They weigh nearly twice what a regular wood stock does.

If it were nearly any other stock than THAT one...I might have made you an offer,  perhaps I will if I end up with another one and need a set of four to make a table.  Those rubber buttpads would ground lift it, and it wouldn't slide around...would be great for a turntable. rofl2

It is either one or the other.

I checked both of mine out, neither have any markings internally as to manufacturer, but the older one shows some craftfully removed lettering on the left side that is consistent with Combat Exchange, as they did that on their side folders too.  It has a very hard rubber buttpad. The newer one, has no such letter removal, and has a much softer, although over sized buttpad.

Looking at the pics, yours looks like an ATI with a better fitting buttpad than mine.

They SUCK! You should feel guilty if you give it away... My first SKS came in one, and I still have another one cluttering up the place.
If anybody pissed me off and gives me their address... look out!
Nice resto on the 6 though... and you say you have a 22?  rofl

Maybe we should send Travis all our unwanted ATI's and have him make tables out of them...he is pretty talented.

Monthly raffles?
Boobie prize for post of the year?

I have considered using mine as platforms for a couple of barreled actions in a gun turret for my camper, but wifey keeps saying no.  banghead1

Three could be lashed together with a yard flamingo for awesome libtard neighbor annoyance.  :)

SKS=winning!

I am jealous of your collection, but I am working on it...since hanging out with you guys the last couple of years, I have more than doubled the SKS collection, and ended up with a couple of Mosins too.

Good times. :)

Don't get me started on the Mosins... went in to make a payment on that 1955 letter Tula Israeli Capture... and walked out with a 1939 Tula 91/30 instead! Overpaid, too, at $139, and no sling even! Addictive dog-gone things... following me home... filling my cabinets...  banghead1
