What is the second number in the serial? It could be one of these; From the SKS Guide "Dating the Chinese SKS"
1988 â€" 1994: Misc guns of various styles, usually w/o an arsenal stamp and sometimes assembled from scrubbed parts, having a unique 88 thru 93 prefix to the serial number. The parts of these guns may come from any time period, but they were (re)assembled and (re)numbered exclusively for export.
Oh, and pics, always pics :)) :))

Yup, refurbished or new old stock parts assembled into guns for export sales, so they end up with anachronistic parts selections some times.
but why no name at all other than cai on barrel? i have another with 8800 and three other digits with made in china by norinco..any reason that you know? norinco is an importer/exporter i thought also.

Well, possible reason for no "Made in China by Norinco" would be Norinco wasn't involved in the production or distribution of some of these late model SKSs. Usually the caliber and "Made by" stamp is somewhere close to the importer stamp, but not always. Simply put, there were a lot of inconsistencies within the construction and distribution of the Chinese SKS and some things we will just never know the answer to.
yes makes sense
