Title: Electro Pencil Serial Numbers - Are they A Concern to you?
Post by: High Noon on April 01, 2021, 09:31:39 PM
I have a chance to buy a nice Yugo with serial numbers that have been marked with an electro-pencil in several places: magazine, bolt carrier and trigger guard.  The numbers do match the stamped # on the receiver and stock.

Would this be a concern to you?  I assume it was refinished at some point.

Thanks!

No concern what so ever, totally normal.  thumb1 Yugoslavia electropenciled many parts.

Great - thanks.

Wasn't sure how big of an issue it is.  I have read where some guys online said it was normal and other guys online said to avoid them.  I'll talk to him again and make him an offer.

This was done during the refurb process?

Actually if you look closely, all Yugo serials are electro penciled. Yugoslavia had a machine that electropenciled numbers, as well as hand electropenciling parts. Electropencil on a Yugo really doesn't mean refurb. None of these weapons display signs of receiver scrubbing and remarking.

This is a closeup of an M59 serial, one of the first M59s made..... not a stamp

These parts don't look like that in the pics, they are thinner and not as deep.  More along the lines of a real pencil!  I'm sure it's okay - just not used to seeing it done that way.

Yup, freehand EP numbers are common on Yugoslavians. Probably 99+% of the Yugoslavian SKSs are refurbished in any case.

I guess you are indirectly teaching me too!
