Title: Is this Russian?
Post by: padams8888 on December 06, 2014, 02:27:57 PM
Wondering if anyone has seen this serial number format before? With zero else to go on, it almost looks like Izhevsk to me..? (I don't have the rifle yet)

Yes, it most certainly looks like an Izhevsk receiver.  Interestingly enough, Tex over at gunboards hasn't noticed any of these with more than three numerals before. I haven't either (I have an example of a two digit numeral, but not a four), but I always chalked it up to a very small sample size.

Did you get the rest of that gun too, or just the barreled receiver?

The ninjas always get to the nice Russians. Of course.
Yep, that's a Russian and it's an Izhevsk. If you can find a gunless Izhevsk stock you'll be in business.

It's a complete rifle.....but it's been butchered. I believe it's been cut down to a 16 inch barrel and it's in a flippen tapco stock. I wouldn't be surprised if the receiver is the only untouched part left...... cry1

Sigh.........It is a 54 Izhevsk. It also appears (from the receiver cover anyway) that it may have been non refurbed....... >:(
Got more pics from the seller.....For freak sakes.......So...no original stock, no magazine, and a cut down barrel...... cry1

Just another bubba.  Being a Russian will bring a bit of a premium.  Being an Izhevsk a bit more to someone who really wants one for the sake of having one maybe, but in the end, it's just another bubba…real shame.

I saw you dredging up some old adverts for Izhevsk stocks. Did you get lucky?

As far as the barrel.....I'm going to locate a proper replacement. The stock and magazine I'm sure will never be found.....but I'll still try......

16 inches.....They cut the barrel down.....cut the fsb down to just the tower.....bored it out.....drilled the barrel top for the pin (1), put a set screw in the base....it is still exceptionally clean and the fit and finish is probably the best of any sks I've owned......

First off......I do not know if importing   ANY  Russian SKSparts from Canada
stateside is LEGAL....so please  do your home work.....
CANADIAN GUNUTZ. HAS an exchange forum(BUY SELL) and has magazines/ stocks/and basically any such parts you might need at very reasonable costs.........its canadas largest( only) national firearms site
free to join and has forums on all kinds of firearms from antiques/b.p/
modern hunting firearms/mil-surps & black-green semi autos......
I should warn you that we have more than our share of WANNA-BE RAMBOES (made the first Rambo movie about ( 75miles from Vancouver)And there is a lot of B.S on the site.  But if you can wade thru it,you may find things you can not find stateside......There is another company in Vancouver that sells SKS by the crate(15)  but they sell mags.(Pinned to 5 rounds)  bolt/carrier covers  LEVER ARMS  also WESTRIFLE.
