Well......not quite what i was looking for with it being my first Nam era M21......but it is what it is.....

I'll get some better pics when it arrives......So.....clean it up.....don't clean it up???
You dont clean it.
Are you flipping this one also?
Ya know.....I don't think I will on this one. I NEVER really want to flip any of them......just have to from time to time... :(
Like I told Joe....I'd have a hell of a collection by now......sometimes I just get too antsy... ::)
So do nothing to slow the corrosion down at all huh? The stock looks like it has had a plaque on it...or worm holes....or shrapnel holes?? If these things could talk. Should I even take it down?
I would break it down and oil the crap out of it with synthetic motor oil, reassemble it, and leave it alone other than admire it.
I'll give it a whirl......Maybe I'll make a display board for it.....I can't see wrapping it up and putting it away In a dark, dark hole..... :)
Awesome!! Guy's.....I know this thing came from a jungle somewhere.....and it shows. However, under all the corrosion (which actually isn't that bad) the rifle almost looks new inside with very little metal wear. The cool thing I found is a shrapnel impact on the right hand side of the receiver that pock-marked it and some additional marks where it hit the bolt carrier! If this thing could speak!!! I found all the serial numbers match! I found some oil based green paint on the bottom of the magazine as well....??? Crazy that the serial number is a repeat so to speak....I'm not going to do anything to it except MAYBE let it soak in some synthetic ATF/Acetone for a bit and then wipe it down....

What's the repeat of the S/N bit about? Is there another 934904 somewhere?
That's a good plan with the simple wipedown. There are lots of weapon cache discoveries that come from Vietnam that look brand new with papers. I'd desire this one way more than any of those. It's been fired in anger in a war, the previous owner may or may not have been hit by shrapnel, all together just a kool piece of history. thumb1
Nice score! I would definitely oil this thing down and make sure all of the active rust has a quick death. Other then that, leave her be!
As far as the serial number repeat...904904....just struck me as odd. Yes...to me...this is the coolest...??? Most meaningful SKS I've owned yet.....I would assume the original owner did not drop it in fear and run away....;) It is eerie thinking about who it may have affected on the other end of the barrel.....
It IS pretty cool having that repeating number... :) You're not likely to forget it !!

Ahhh! She's so rusty in the first picture I saw 934 instead of 904. Definitely a neat serial number! clap1
What an incredible find, this is very fascinating!
Thanks....it actually is humbling to hold something like this. I found more shrapnel damage last night in the front of the gas tube....I'll get a pic of it on here in a bit. Going to take it back down and get it soaking shortly.....
