Post by: Matchka on November 14, 2020, 05:40:26 PM
Any clues on the curious looking /26\ stamp on this early bird?

I was of the understanding that was the normal 1957 6 digit 1st year of the stamp set up. NO???? What am I missing?

I think it's just the flash photography that makes it look odd. It's in the right position (to the right of the SN) for a six digit.

It's exactly like my recent six digit acquisition....minus the rust and pitting.
What is even more interesting, it's the first Chinese I have seen with the doubled reinforcement pins on the stock...
I have seen a couple Russians like that, in fact, before switching to a Yugo stock, mine first lived in a Russian stock that is double pinned. Odd coincidence. :)

The font for the serial on these is rather small, and often dark...there ISN'T a pic of the butt, so it's a little suspicious, perhaps they missed it or forgot? I would think you could see the toe splice if it were a later surplus Russian stock but the picture isn't great in that regard either, but I am not seeing one.  It does appear to have an almost Russian color, tough to say on the wood type. I dunno really.  Regardless, I find the double pinning interesting, its three I have seen recently, and they were all pinned the same way, the first one I saw, I bought because of it...and wondered if it was due to some kind of flaw that I couldn't see...but seeing this many done pretty much exactly the same way is a head scratcher. If it indeed is Chinese, even more so...

JH, Yessir, the Chinese/Russian mix(?) is definitely a head scratcher on this one.

The seller replied that the bolt is matching.

Stock is not serialized.

Apparently, he extended the auction, because it says 4+ days left when I clicked on the link.
