Title: Current prices on '54 refurbs?
Post by: firstchoice on October 10, 2020, 02:01:28 AM
I'm considering taking a couple of '54 Izzy refurbs to the gun show tomorrow and doing some wheeling-dealing. What are the current prices out there for these? (Not counting the insane pricing going on. I don't want to give anyone any heart attacks tomorrow.  :) )

One is an all-matching in a laminate stock. The stock is stamped with the full SN: ИП 3791. Has ip stamped just above the SN on the receiver. I guess that was done for import purposes? Wood and finish are in great shape. Has the black finish on the bolt carrier, but not the bayonet. The rear sight leaf looks to be "in the white"? Not fired since import. Has the usual accessories that came with the Russian SKS-45's. (Sling, oil bottle, owners manual, stripper clip pouch) Imported by CAI ST ALB VT.

The other is in the original-style hardwood stock and stamped with the SN: НП 4662. It must still be a replacement stock because it doesn't have the proof marks around the cross bolt. The right side of the buttstock has the refurb mark (square w/ diagonal line) and a faint circular stamp. No extra stamping above the SN on the receiver on this one. SN on magazine is force matched with electro-pencil and SN on trigger group is electro-penciled. Wood and finish are in great shape. Has the black finish on the bolt carrier but not the bayonet. The rear sight leaf looks to be "in the white"? Not fired since import. Has the usual accessories that came with the SKS-45. (Sling, oil bottle, owners manual, stripper clip pouch) Imported by NHM SAC CA

I wish I could post pics but I still haven't figured out what's going on with my upload program. Just looking for ballpark estimates. If any additional info is needed just let me know.

Caveat: Just my one opinion, I haven’t done a recent analysis of sold ‘54s on GunBroker.

The heavy refurb (black bolt) with the laminate sounds like a $500 gun to me but I’d start at $600 or $650 and work down if necessary. These days it might get snatched up quickly, especially with the laminate stock that a lot of people like.

The lighter refurb I’d start at $800, especially if the fonts on the numbers match. Again I’d drop down $100, as needed and depending on your own priorities of either selling quickly or maximizing dollars.

Yes, the IP was added by the importer to avoid Cyrillic letters in the serial number, as required by the ATF.

Yeah, makes sense now. The SN on the NHM SAC CA-import was changed to a 99#####-type SN, like the #17. NHM #3 example on the List of Russian SKS-45 Importers.

I'm going to try to figure this picture upload program-problem out and post some pics here. I have never tried to sell on Gunbroker, I've always been the buyer. Not sure how much they charge Sellers for those amounts. Someone here might want either one or both and I'd rather sell for less here than to sell for more there and then give it to Gunbroker. I didn't make it to the gun show today and not sure I'll have the chance to go tomorrow.

Thanks for the input P32! I really appreciate it!

If you sell them on GB, be sure to use some fancy words like WOW!!, Rarest, never fired, all matching, etc.  chuckles1

Absolutely pcke2000!  rofl2  Some grey carpet for backdrop and some wild stories about how the black refurbs were really designed and manufactured specifically for the Spetznaz for use in night operations. The Spetznaz officially designated them the "Night Hunter"!  ::)  Especially the ones with the black bayonets! chuckles1 It's all in the story, man!  rofl2

Kidding aside, that's the exact story told to me and a friend at the Tulsa Gun Show when I bought one of these. (I'm thinking early 90's, IIRC)  I wanted it anyway but we were so green on knowing anything about any SKS, much less the mass of variances they came in. Those guys were making up whoppers to sell their rifles and we were eating it up. 13 acres of guns under one roof and during that time, IT WAS HEAVEN!
