I recently moved to a big city in Texas. Initially I thought it would be fairly easy to find decent Russian SKS in this area, considering the size of the city and Texas' gun friendly laws/policies. To my surprise, after I went to 3-4 well known LGS, I was able to find only one Russian in BBQ paint. Local online sites (armslist and Texas gun trader) are pretty much the same. Haven't yet got a chance to go to local gun shows though.
I wonder if availability situation is better in your areas?
The problem with gun friendly states is that many collectors will snatch things up when they are cheap...and keep them. I have seen two Russians for sale locally in Montana....in the last ten years. Both overpriced. Both got the asking price. Neither buyer was me. :)
While not rare, Russians are getting had to come by around these parts.

I just returned from a seasonal gig in another gun friendly state, Idaho. I hunt for SKS parts for 300 mile and on my wa back to Kali . I picked up some good deals, but there were only 5 SKSs for sale, 3 at one shop, but 2 were Russians for $625. One I would have bought if I could have. PAX
