I came across these carton box inserts for the Chinese SKS bandoliers the other day so ordered enough to do 1 of my bandoliers. They are similar to the inserts for the 30 rnds on stripper clips bandoliers for the AR platform only open at both ends. They are a little bit of a pain to get in but once inserted in the pockets make it a lot easier to get your stripper clips in and out of the pockets as they no longer catch on the canvas stitching, etc. I did find they needed to be cut down a little(about 1/4"-3/8") for my liking, but YMMV. Below are some pics of the outcome. I used scissors to cut them down so they wouldn't stick above the pocket and the metal 6" ruler I used like a shoehorn on the sides to get the carton past the stitching seam. I am planning on buying more to do the rest of my Bandos'

Oh, cool!
I have so long awaited someone to post about these before considering picking some up. I have seen them for years but you are the first to bring them up in a forum that I have seen. I keep my bandoliers fully stocked and this might tidy up the ammo box. (That is about to be level inside :P )
Do they still roll up nice and neat or does it require you to lay them flat for storage?
Neat! Were did you find them for purchase?

I use 9 per bando as the 10th pocket is for the oiler and such, which means they are really 180 round bandoliers, NOT 200 round bandoliers. I just finished the one and yes it folds and rolls, but the pockets are more rectangular/boxy. I think it will be better to have it fold more than rolled for longevity with the inserts. For stacking in ammo cans, etc. They wouldn't need to be cut and realistically, they don't have to be cut for the bandos, I just didn't like the 3/8" they were sticking out above the top seam of the pockets.
There is a guy who has them in bundles of 50 and 5 bundles left. I was thinking of buying them all then reselling in packs of 9. Gotta pay for my SKSs somehow.

Sorry.
Did you try fitting two into the oiler pouch or no? I wanna say I squeeze four strippers in there.
cool, thanks for sharing.
You're welcome, BTW Astronut, they are on Ebay.
JH, no I keep an oiler in all mine.

This guy has got to be scratching his head, that listing has been up for years IIRC and if it's the same seller.
HURRY before he raises the prices everybody! ;)
I bought his last 10 piece bundle to try them out. The 50 piece bundle is a steal compared to the 10. Of course most of that is shipping. He has a ton of 5.56 inserts as well as some 7.62 NATO.
I bought a batch of 50 of them from him. Thanks Greatguns! thumb1

Those things look like they'd be very useful and help stiffen the bandos for storage. PAX

Larry, I will hook you up once I recieve my purchase! I dont need that many of them and you have "gifted" me things in the past so I will "gift" you as well! Consider it a done deal! thumb1
If they arrive in a reasonable amount of time I will include my extras in the box along with your cleaning kits Larry. I got half the box today, the other half may take until Monday...although it's supposed to be here tomorrow. It may take a couple days to get it moving again, if it seems likely that they will arrive in a reasonable amount of time, I will hold off sending.

rofl rofl Kind of nice to see people fight over who gets to give stuff away. Just the opposite of what is going on in the country right now.
FYI, apparently this guy has more and you can get it in 10 packs as well.

I am learning from you Alan, I don't want to have enough boxes to lead to more bandoliers, which lead to more stripper clips, which leads to more ammo. rofl
Last time I had a spare trigger group, I built a gun around it. I only have so much willpower, I have been considering building a gun around a 45 degree gas block for over a year. Besplode
I only really need 36 if I opt to go traditional and use the oiler pouch for it's intended purpose. My first oiler was a dual cap, but single vessel...which I assume is defective, there is no partition. I kinda got soured on them after that. Do you actually keep oil and/or solvent in yours?
I remembered this afternoon seeing these boxes and at the time the description included a statement with words to the effect that it made it quieter to remove them in the field than the strippers in the pouches alone. I haven't ever seen them available from China either...which gave me pause, but what the heck, if you like 'em, and now that I have seen them in use...even if they aren't
really for this purpose. Even if it isn't quieter, I would suspect it may make it easier to unbutton the toggles.
You guys are pretty awesome.
Dangit!
They just went on sale for five percent off, we all could have saved a buck.
Justin, as to the oiler thing, mostly I set my Chinese bandoliers up to be all "present and correct" because I'm a little OCD that way :), but yes I intend to keep a little oil in the bottles. Not enough to leak out, but enough just in case the "S**t really does hit the fan" then each SKS is set and ready to utilize as needed.
What I like about the inserts is more the fact that the loaded stripper clips come out clean and you don't have to worry so much about rounds dropping off when the clip is pulled out from catching on the stitching.
I messaged the guy to see if these were all he had or if he has a regular supplier. He has a regular supplier, but no guarantee as to how long they will remain available. I did some research last night and apparently they have been around for a while. Found a posting from 2008 for some on GunAuction in a 4 pocket bando repack kit. Bando looked like the 4 pocket USGI AR bandos but it came with 4 inserts and 8 x39 stripper clips and was stamped 7.62z39. I had never seen these before, maybe just a sales gimmick or maybe a CIA initiative, LOL.
I did see Galati International sold them for a while and their site says they were manufactured by Old Sarge's OS9000 which makes me wonder if they were made/developed by the Old Sarge on the other boards and on gunboards by that username.

Part of my SKS preps are 2-20mm cans with bandos, 2 duffels with some, 3 web belts/harnesses I built with pouches (Russian, Chinese, & Yugo) & hydration. It's feeling more and more like this stuff is gonna be called into service. PAX

That's because this is a site largely made up of decent human beings that want to see the hobby grow.
If anyone needs oil bottles, I have a bunch of Soviet era ones available if you'll cover shipping or trade something.
I also have a source for some Chicom's. Not a huge amount, but there are some kinda cool variants out there.
One type I've sorta been eyeballing are the green painted one seen here: https://www.tickbitesupply.com/sks.html
Not sure they're original, though.
Alright, who bought up the rest of the inserts. Good thing I went back and bought a 50 pack to fill the rest of my bandos with. I knew I should have just bought it all to begin with. bat1 bat1 rofl rofl
Not me. I only bought 1 pack of the 50 inserts.
I'm a little leery of these things although not sure if I need to be. My thought is how you will store these when loaded. They are a paper product that will absorb moisture. I'm thinking that if not stored in an ammo can they may corrode cases. Am I wrong? I live in humid area near Great Lakes.

Maybe Renaissance Wax.
I used it on some cardboard stencils to good effect. It not only kept the masking tape from tearing them up, it allowed me to peel the left over paint off of them.
The stuff seems pretty durable, too. I keep finding new uses for it.

You can buy small and medium sized bags of desiccant to place wherever you store your ammo. Keeping it in a climate controlled environment is best, and having the desiccant there as a safeguard against the AC going out. Dry basement is always good.
Also, if your carton insert is attracting moisture then so is your brass or steel. You need to keep it dry reguardless.
I live where there are at least three makers of jerky....but also a fairly arid climate, I save the packets for smaller ammo boxes and just let them add up. My big ammo box that houses four bandoliers on the bottom half gets the dessicant packs from bigger items like TVs. :)
I got my 50 pack and finished setting up my 3 bandoliers yesterday. I found the cells of the different bandos to be inconsistant in sizing from one to the other making the inserts harder to fit into the smaller cells.
The moral of this story is.....wait for it......size matters!! rofl rofl rofl
