Title: Well...yes another shortie
Post by: BMont on July 23, 2020, 04:25:10 PM
New to me about four years ago.  Neat little carbine had out today and shot about 20 rounds when I got the call from wifefy for a milk run.  Anyway back home and thought I would post before I cleaned her up.

I think this one is a late 50's?  I know I saw a dating thread here somewhere.

Rad!  thumb1

Paratrooper blades are far few and too far between. I hope one day to come across one...

Thanks Justin...

This rifle came to me with out the bayo...out of Fla.  It was two years later until the bayo was found on a for sale section of another board for parts.  They can be found  :)

Yup, originally a 1958 Type 56. Converted to "para" configuration in the 1980s or early 90s.
The dating thread is a sticky in the military sub-forum.

I have one from the "same year" with a spike bayonet.

Thanks for the link... I found what I thought was the dating thread under military sks... and second guessed thinking it was early 62

Okay, I'm a bit confused here. (Which is usually par for the course for me, anyway.   :P  )  My eyes are a bit old and the picture of the Serial Number is a bit out of focus. I was/am seeing a 7 million series carbine. Is it a 7 mil or a 3 mil series carbine? The 3 mil would make it a '58 production and the 7 mil would make it a '62 production. I need better glasses, dang it.  :)  It could be a 3 mil., just can't tell.

Very nice carbine, regardless! Thanks for posting it up, BMont!

Late to the party as usual, but that's a rare piece of loveliness you have there.

It’s a 3rd year carbine. You can tell Immediately by the /26\ to the right of the S/N and the lack of the Chinese ‘5 6 type’ lettering.

So the numbering sequence is the same ? so if my rifle is a KSI Paratrooper with 7 digits and a letter P (8158XXXP) would that make it a 1963 ?

If it's an Arsenal 26 with a leading 8 (year code), then the donor Type 56 for your Paratrooper was indeed a 1963. The paratrooper itself was prepared from the donor SKS in the mid-80s to early 90s.

Let's see the complete receiver serial number side and a full length shot. Is the stock a blade unit with the bayo channel filled in? PAX
