Title: Buttstock tool area
Post by: Southpaw on June 02, 2020, 01:19:16 PM
Hey Guys, I was cleaning a new to me 12mil. SKS and found a black plastic thing in the buttstock tool area when I took the spring out to clean off the cosmo. Not sure what it is, or why it’s there. Anyone else find stuff in the tool area besides the spring?

Looking for a good source for a Chinese tool kit too.

Thanks, SP

Given the location of it, as well as the origin of the rifle, the only guess I have is that it's a Chicom butt plug......

I have not found one of those plugs before but years ago I found a fired 7.62x39 case and a used small cleaning rag/patch in that area.

All I found was two presumably Albanian small rocks in mine.

Is it soft rubber, or something more durable?

It's hard plastic.

Hey, the tool kit spring goes loose wire (tampered end) in first and the coiled smooth end seats the tool kit right? I think mine was in upside down.

I got some of the kits from J&G Sales....about $7.  They were surplus still wrap up in oiled paper.

Hey Southpaw,

Not sure how big the plastic thing is, but if it's what I think it is, it's about an 1 1/4" long and about 3/8" in diameter?

It's the toggle on the Albanian chest pouches. Apparently, one got severed from the pouch flap and they stuck it inside the buttstock, saving it "for that day" when they could sew it back on...

I can't post a photo of the Albanian Chest Pouch for the SKS due to my recurring annual battle with Photobucket and their way of "automatic re-subscribing" and "alternate" pricing plans. I'm sure someone can post the pics for you.

Thanks P32. I have a couple of the Alby chest pouches and I have my Photobucket "issue" worked out now. I'll try to get a couple of close-up pics taken and posted.

I looked around, is there a chest rig thread?

I'd like to see some discussion and photos.

Larry, I hope we can get more added to the Weebly page. It's a matter of getting RM, or whoever does the additions to the Weebly pages, the pics we have to upload. Then, they have to get the time to get them added to that page, which is under "Accessories" on the main Weebly page.

For the Chinese accessories:

http://chinesesks.weebly.com/accessories.html (http://chinesesks.weebly.com/accessories.html)

Right now, I think all there is is two types of Chinese chest pouches.

And, for the Albanian accessories:

http://albaniansks.weebly.com/accessories.html (http://albaniansks.weebly.com/accessories.html)

But, that page isn't finished yet.  There is a picture of the Alby chest pouch under a write up that GM did on the "History" of the Albanian SKS:

http://albaniansks.weebly.com/history.html (http://albaniansks.weebly.com/history.html)

And it would continue on for each separate country's SKS production, under "Accessories". Now, I don't know if it would help to have a sticky for all types of Chest Pouches on the same sticky? There would be a lot of sticky's if we started one for each type of accessory, I suppose. Whatever works the best.

Hope that helps. We need to get the Mods all the info and pics they need to complete the Weebly pages for future reference. Slowly, but surely!

Yeah I'll add it to my list.  Oddly enough I have access to the Russian Weebly guide, but not the Alby and Chinese sections.  I will get in touch with LC and see if I can get access to those pages and go from there.
