Title: 3 in 7 days! I need help I think.
Post by: Weldrdave on November 27, 2019, 01:45:25 PM
So I'm at my local gun club shooting the "Yugo" M59 I just cleaned up and got talking to a Gentleman who saw my SKS.  He said he had one, a Chinese, shoot's it about once a year then back in the closet it goes. He asked If I may be interested in it,  :o. I said yeah, sure but I'm a bit broke!  I just bought a couple last week.  So he said he was looking for a hunting rifle and I told him I had a couple, but nothing very nice. Well after discussing more, he sparked interest in an old JC Higgins I had and said he was willing to trade "even up".  I was not attached to this rifle per say, It was the average Sears .35.   Well, He shows up with this and the rest is history!!!  It is nearly perfect and every single thing matches!!!  :).  I may need help, I believe I'm an addict now... wink1

Yep, you are definitely an addict now and there is no hope for you!   :)  At one time I had 21 of them in various flavors from different countries.  Wish I still had them but life sometimes interupts and bills need to be paid.   :(

Definitely a nice one. 416 M21s don’t pop up all that often, you did very well on that trade.  thumb1

You t want to stop conversing with that GM guy altogether. The ‘enabler’ can sense weakness from 1200 miles away and akways has a lead on the next great deal.  :P

Yes!  I understand that very well!  When my wife and I were much younger, things needed to get paid and then came along a Child.  Yep! Guns are easy to "Liquify" when you need $$$
I'm much older now, bills paid and I'm retired. Served 27 years for our Nation.  Wife works and I do part time stuff.  We can get by Ok now.  I just hope another $300 or $400 SKS don't come along until "payday"  nailbite1 The wife will have me committed!

I completely agree with everything RM said. Nice 416 M21!

And definitely stay away from GM, he's a terrible enabler. I would never encourage you to add a Russian, Romanian and Albanian to your growing collection...and the grenade launcher on the M59/66s is an interesting variation...and a nice early Type 56 with a blade bayonet would be nice to have...

I guess I've had a Lucky streak!  I didn't know until I read "after the fact" about the M21.  Didn't know the significance of them.

I love to see the "I have this old gun in my closet" deals! Best deals come around that way. Congrats on your M21!

What importer brought that one in?

This is what it say's  (CAI ST ALB VT
SKS 7.62X39 CHINA).  It's directly behind the bayonet lug under the cleaning rod on the barrel.  "very small". Almost didn't see it.

Awesome!  Very desirable gun.

But please fix that bayonet.  It is on upside down, and it bothers me terribly.

There's two things you need help with:
1. More money for more toys.
2. Storage for those toys.

I can't help with the first, but I'll take one for the team and volunteer to help you out with the second...... :)

It's the way I got it, It's also riveted in place.  I've never removed one with the rivet but  I'll research it.  Not to mention I didn't even realize it.

Weldrdave, I have a DIG-import Type 56 that uses the rivet for the bayonet retention. I don't know if it's the same, but the rivet on mine was never flared to keep it in place. It will just slide right out if you release the spring pressure on the bayo collar. It's kinda one of those 3-handed tricks, but it's possible. Not sure if yours has been flared, or not. But you might try it. I doubt the bayo was put on upside down at the factory so bets are it will slide out unless a previous owner decided to flare the rivet. Just my own experience, anyway. YRMV

It's pretty easy. If it is flared, you'll have to taper the end slightly to reuse the rivet, or get one off eBay. PAX

WD, from what I can see in the pictures,  the river forest look too flared.  If you use a smaller diameter punch than the hole, it should compress the flare while you drive it out.  Cheers, Bruce.

Whoa, that one looks pretty pristine! I'd be happy with that trade, too.

Thanks for your service; I look forward to spending my retirement the way you do!

I didn't get a pic, but Bayonet is "correct" now thumb1. The rivet was "slightly" mushroomed but came out easy with a small punch. I found a new one on eBay.  The old one was good for a back up spare.
