Title: As Promised, my $300.00 /636\.
Post by: Weldrdave on November 24, 2019, 09:00:05 AM
First, my wife is gone shopping, weather crappy and I have this spread out on the dining table, If my wife knew...  bat1 >:(.  Anyway, also if this is the wrong forum I apologize please move.
I'll start by saying the trigger assembly, bolt, receiver, and bolt cover all match.  Stock looks like it had t wo or three sets of numbers on it at one time.  The magazine housing isn't even "close" to matching anything.  The bayonet housing, "non-existent" was done very cleanly and almost looks manufactured that way, although I do assume different.  That's why I'm here with you all!  :).  It has a 20" barrel and looks no different than the military models other than missing the lug.   I'm curious to what you all think. I can't make heads or tails from what I've read about these, It doesn't "look" commercial.  I shot it at 50yrds yesterday before coming home and it's shooting 3" groups at that distance.  I did have to just the front site.  Sorry about some of the crappy pics, I did the best I could for a retired old fart fart1.    Enjoy!

It’s a 1977 Type 56 so it’s the right forum. Like DC said, neutered under previous law.

Good price these days  thumb1

thumb1  I would have bought it for 300 buck.. I have a 1.7 million 636, it shoots pretty decent.

Mine was imported before the neutering of stuff in that oh so wonderful era. It's just a neutered military rifle. With the mismatchy magazine.. I bet someone had shoved a highcap in it, lost/sold the factory magazine, only to return it to factory style later.......... or they discovered the high cap didn't work so well.

Just enjoy it for what it is..same with the numbers, it still looks like a nice example.  thumb1 thumb1

Thanks for all the great info!!!  thumb1.  I know the stock didn't come up so good in the pics but it's full of dings and dents.  I might have fun with it and strip and refinish it.  Who knows, maybe "snow camo" it for my New Hampshire/New England trips...  wink1

Good idea!  I'm going to the Philadelphia Oaks Gun show in December.  They always have a few around.  Last year when I was there, people were asking + $600.00 for what I just found.   :o
I think the "cheapest" SKS I saw was about $499.00 and it looked like it was drug behind a pickup down a gravel road for 10 miles!  cry1.  I saw a real nice Russian for $899.00... I believe I'm happy now.   :)

Geeze....sounds like my area... around 500 on up is about the norm for an original... some really bad bubbas you might... get for around 400'ish. At the last gunshow less than a month ago..I found a fairly decent matching spike Chinese SKS, the only one there.. and for about a hundred more bucks, I could have had a Glock 40 MOS and the optic I wanted.

Well, ya forced me to look :).  My /636\ is cut the same on the FSB.  I wonder if CAI ST ALB VT contracted that specific factory for that mod.
Nice buy at $300.00. I think I got mine for about $325.00 six months ago and prices have only gone up since.  Your stock isn't bad.  As GM said, there are much worse out there.
By the way, anyone know who 636 is/was?

Nice score.

I PM'd you in your other thread, but now I see the lugs gone. Technically, if it came without a bayo, it's supposed to stay that way.
I got parts to "salvage" it if interested. PAX

By the numbers, /636\ was the third largest factory in China as far as SKS production is concerned. I have S/Ns in the database from year 13 to year 26 with many thousands k he per year.  They all seem to be well built guns, almost on par with /26\ and much better than the later rectangle factory guns that usually exhibit poor fit and finish.
