I have an opportunity to pick up a Sino-Soviet Chinese SKS ...SN H4148 for under $300.
Known issues:
Receiver cover does not match (rest of metal does). Cover is marked BK 2490.
Stock is cracked (left side, looks like its cracked from cross bolt screw to almost mid reciever)
Still packed in cosmo.
Good deal for <$300???

I got one in similar condition from the recent Classic import batch. Packed in grease, unnumbered replacement Alby stock, some bluing wear, massive crack through the crossbolt that has basically broken the stock in half. They were $249 + shipping + tax (shipped to my C&R so I saved $$ there). I came out of the deal just under $300 so it's very comparable to what I got, except for the mismatch receiver cover on the one you are looking at. That cover is a Russian cover by the way, probably from a letter gun if the top has no date. Not a screaming deal by any means, but you're not paying a premium either...the going rate for a plastic stocked mismatching SKS is ~$300. whereas nice matching Chinese type 56s look to start around the $400 mark these days.
Tough choice. If they are plentiful in your area I'd pass, if this is the first $300 SKS you've seen in a long while, I'd toss out a $275 offer and see what happens. Good luck! thumb1
Im guessing here but if the letters BK are stamped on the cover or mostly anywhere doesn't that indicate Yugo ? Do you have pics of the cover. Either way if its in decent shape for 300.00 id probably be going to the bank before that price expires thumb1
Like has been said, a beat down on the price would be better. It'll cost a few bucks to change out the furniture, depending on how you want it to appear. If you get it, I might could help in that area. PAX
The market is well stocked with Type56's, and prices are good.
If (god forbid) the D's ever get another ban into law, the featureless, 10 round fixed mag sks will probably double up in price overnight.
I recommend waiting for a better deal on a better gun. I've no idea how plentiful local gun shops are in your area, but you'd be surprised at the deals you'll find at many LGS's especially smaller, out-of-the-way establishments.
I've got an all matching 2nd year gun (2mil/ 1957) and an all matching "M" letter rifle I'd be willling to part with for not much more than the asking price on the mis-matched OP rifle with a broken stock.

Probably a BK series Soviet letter rifle.
The Yugo [BK] stamps are fairly small in comparison to Serial fonts, and somewhat discreet.
I emailed the seller and he has not responded. I have serious questions about the stock and a couple of other issues (pics are terrible).
No response after several emails....think I am gonna pass on this one. I can afford to wait for a better example.
