What did I just buy? (http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/jusridin/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20141110_174637055.jpg) (http://s1151.photobucket.com/user/jusridin/media/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20141110_174637055.jpg.html)Lol, I know it sounds bad just asking but I found this and the SKS on fb for 700, I offered 550, he countered with 575 for both? I said OK? He says its a Mauser rechambered for 308? I have about 10, 000 rounds of 7.62x51 with no rifle to shoot it with?
How did I do? I'm not a Mauser guy and hope I did alright?
What's marked on the receiver rail? Or receiver ring. And is that a muzzle brake on the end?
(http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/jusridin/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20141110_174702800.jpg) (http://s1151.photobucket.com/user/jusridin/media/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20141110_174702800.jpg.html)
It is a muzzle brake, the brake is parkerized
Junk the gun and give me all your x51!!!!
Bugger, I did it again....
Come get the ammo Adam
It's a M1916 Spanish Mauser, 7.62 is not the original caliber, it was 7mm originally. Most of the M1916 Spanish caliber converted rifles carry the OT serial prefix. Beware of hot hunting loads, they are a weaker two lug design, not the stronger K98 3 lug design.
OK. That's a Spanish Mauser. Heavily chopped & butchered. Should be fun to shoot!
Yeah what House said.
Thank you again monkey! All my ammo is Chilean and israelian 70s - 80s surplus, although I have a few thousand Malaysian tracers. Hopefully it handles them OK .... I will probably sell it when the ammo runs out.
Seriously thank you for the info, I will shoot her on Thursday. The numbers all match except the bolt from what I see so far, I'm sure that's common.
Lol, heavily chopped and butchered? Bugger! Definitely gonna sell her after the ammo runs out!
Gonna do more research first, whats been modified? (Obviously the brake and bolt)
If your gonna feed it 10k rounds of ammo, for f's sakes check the head space on it, or at least have it checked, I'm sure you would look funny as sh*t running around with a bolt though your skull. :o If it passes, great thumb1 just keep an eye on it, bolt lug setback sucks and makes it unsafe, and the steel in these older weapons ain't the best, and there is no 3rd lug for safety.
Thats just my $00.00000000000000001 worth, thumb1
You said f and sh#t ....
Lug in skull....
Bugger, bugger....
Checking headspace now
Yea, and I'll get banned, yet again :o
The correct gauge is a Nato gauge, not a .308.
And it should look like this, this is my M1916 in 7mm Mauser.

Seriously... If you ever want to trade off some of that stache..... rofl
Adam I would definitely make you a deal on 7.62x51 ammo.
Grease monkey I would hope you wouldn't get banned for being so straight forward with a fellow member, I like my skull, its my favorite skull I own?
Trying to figure out headspace still, but I am not shooting her till I check it.
Honestly thank you!
It has been met by Bubba, its not the worst Bubba has done but I'm not loving her right now, gonna treat her like a stepchild....
GM getting banned is an inside joke JR. He managed to get the server to automatically ban him by using a combination of words that made the program think he was a Russian mail order bride spammer. It was absolutely hilarious.
He thinks that bringing it up every once in a while is going to garner him a bit of compassion. In reality, we just laugh at him all over again! rofl rofl2 chuckles1
10,000 rounds of 7.62 NATO :o :o Holy ammo cans Batman! Did they have an explosion on the Lake City M80 line that flung a few cases into your backyard? :))
Those old small ring 7mm Spanish Mausers needed a little chamber reaming to accommodate the larger diameter neck and shoulder of the 7.62x51mm. Higher max pressure rating on the 7.62 NATO than the 7mm Mauser too.
Long story with the ammo, I got a great deal on ****ty ammo lol, but I have every intention of shooting a few rounds before i sell any.
So if they reamed the chamber.... 2 lug bolt.... Questionable steel.... Shitty ammo....
I should be good as long as the headspace is good?

These rechambered M1916's and FR7's (the carbine generated from the M1916) don't have the greatest reputation for the reasons listed previously. The Spaniards initially ran the lower pressure 7.62 CETME round through them since they were largely training rifles for the Model 58 (CETME) select fire assault rifle. Later they went to 7.62 NATO but I suspect they still didn't use that ammo in training (just guessing). Having the headspace checked and the bolt lugs inspected by a gunsmith are good recommendations. Also, it would be good if you knew something about the properties of your "****ty ammo". I wouldn't want to run any hot (near max pressure, high velocity) .308/7.62x51 through that rifle regardless of its condition...and I sure wouldn't want to push 10,000 rounds of any ammo through it :))
If you ever run into an FR8, which was a 7.62x51 carbine conversion of the large ring M43 (K98 clone originally chambered in 8mm Mauser), I wouldn't hesitate to grab it. I have one of these and it's a fun little carbine.
Thanks again to the board, taking it to my gun shop today to have her checked out, even if it all checks out I'm just going to send a few rounds down range, then sell it.
All in all I'm OK with the buy, just cleaned Cosmo out of the SKS , she is immaculate.
When I sell the Mauser I don't think I will be hurt.
Yeah, Spanish mauser notwithstanding, what's the story on the SKS? All matchinhg? What arsenal? This is SKS-Files after all! thumb1
It is all matching , I will post more pics in the appropriate spot later but she is /306\ arsenal, looks like someone fired at least 1 or 2 rounds through it but with all the caked in Cosmo in her I bet they were happy to get rid of it lol, I spent a few hours giving her a proper cleaning so she runs flawlessly now.

The age old question: Did you get the bolt disassembled and all cleaned out? Probably so if it runs flawlessly.
Looking forward to the full pictorial :)
Good news is the board saved my ass, with the no-go gauge the bolt dropped in easily, the guy I bought it from is being cool about it and giving my cash back.
Thanks again everyone! Now I'm slightly more educated.
my DOU 45 Israeli Mauser is &.62X51 Nato. I love it,but love all my guns. :)
