I asked myself that, and looked at the various non matching or otherwise bubba'd carbines and decided I would do my first RPK or "E4" project on a yugo. call it the Ruchnoy Pulemyot Simonova
I started with a mockup (excuse the horrible bipod, it was jsut a leftover from a bubba rescue. it moves on later)
At this point I was still debating which of these rifles would be converted. The Yugo won, for reasons that will make sense later nea1

another view of some of the mocked up features and comparisons. i haven't even fitted the new bolt and carrie rin to the rescued yugo yet :-\

decision made, and some sanding doen on the stock to prepare for fitting a pistol grip

you noticed in the last photo one (not the only) other reason I went with the 59/66. I have a place to mount a m72 bipod.
not a bad idea. I'll hav to modify the handguard portion of the stock a little bit.
after some disassembly, some test fitting. I had to remove a fair amount of material from the bipod
(https://i.imgur.com/01f9t13l.jpg)
I bored out the bipod instead of turning the barrel. because of the slight taper, it can get nice and tight, but generally swivels okay with a slap forward.
more sanding on the stock to get the pistol grip to happen

still need a gas tube, but it's starting to look like an RPS

Oh, yeah, the OTHER reason I wanted to us a 59/66 :o :o
(https://i.imgur.com/7DLhahal.jpg)
gotta make a piston tube. I used bar stock steel and drilled it, then turned some neat heat dissipating vanes on there. Wish I could have done that to the barrel, too.

Gotta fit the piston tube

the grenade sight doesn't come quite all the way down with the bipod, so I shaved a bit of metal

All done. sitting next to her sister, an M72B1 that I built
need to get range photos, but let me tell you, it's a ton of fun to put on the bipod and just dump 75 rounds on a 100 yard gong.

What's the origin on the drum? Chinese or Korean?

Korean. had to mess with it a bit to make it work well. just tweaking the feed lips.
at the moment it has the chinese 20 rounder in it, actually. I got the drum reliable but the truth is that 20 rounds works pretty well
If I decide to do another or do some work on this one I could see going to AK magazine mounting. and then get a fun drum
I was toying with the idea of fitting an AK underfolding stock to a beater SKS.
I was thinking that a rear stub from an AK would accommodate the folder, but you'd need to fab the mount for the stub.
One of Classics busted stock beaters would be a candidate for something like this.

Older thread... But.. I got a couple of those grenades from Sarcos. Gave one to my bestie for Christmas so we could launch around with our 59/66s and our Yugo M70s.. Still looking for grenades launching blanks... Real Yugo surplus would be "bomb".

Damn Dude ! Your pretty talented. I want to see a video of that dummy launcher at work thumb1 That would be cool.
What's the difference between launcher blanks and regular blanks.
Launcher blanks tend to have more powder/power in them to kick the grenade further. Also, usually a different powder to achieve the desired results. Cheers, Bruce.
I'll have to do some checking, but I believe the blanks I have are "parade" blanks from East Germany.
I do have several, though.
Maybe some of you guys are knowledgeable about this.

Edit: I just found this, too. I'd like to get a few boxes for the collection.

Pretty much what Bacarnal said. Grenade blanks are hot, for launching grenades far. Blanks are for cycling the action with a blank firing device on the muzzle, for simulation.
