Looks like a G to me.... :P
Its supposed to have a blade bayo.....the spike and stock to accommodate the spike were added later.

That wacky 'serial' apparently isn't a serial.

Fortunately, this ol' "backwards J" came cheap. I've read some back and forth on the spike v blade bayo/stock on these. Yooper has a nice page on these rifles w/a lot of Soviet-Sino and Sino-Soviet stuff. All very interesting.
Were the original stocks stamped with the pinyin before the serno?

Unfortunately, much of his narrative is out of date since it ignores the information gleaned from the flood of letter guns that came out of Albania ca. 2012-14.
You have a 1959-60 letter gun in the G block. Yes, the original stocks were stamped with the serial number including the letter block (see my matching example below). They had side swivel stocks with a blade bayonet and a long lug threaded barrel. None of that into is controversial; they were produced 4-5 years before the introduction of the spike bayonet.

Heres a couple original letter "G" (or "L"; jury is still out on this one, we gravitate towards "G", but L is not impossible either) stocks with S/N, look to be small font (just like many other letter guns):

It's funny to think back to around 1988, and into the early '90's, when we, (me and other gun nut buddies), thought we knew sooo much about the SKS. --There were the Chinese ("that Chinese junk"),-- the Russians, ("the Cadillacs"),-- and then the Yugoslavians coming in the near future. (the 1st "unknowns") chuckles1 I don't remember when the Romy's came in, much less the "Trinity rifles".
All the little differences that made so much difference! So many "new" things to learn, research, and remember.
Now, I look forward to the next time I get to the 'Files and the possibility of a new "variance"! Oh, the (improbable) possiblities!
Wouldn't it have been nice to have had the SKS-Files data at our finger tips as we walked those gun shows with the $69.00-$79.00 SKS prices, back then? That's some REAL gun porn fantasizing! The haydays of surplus firearms, for sure!
