A VZ52/57 made by SHE, aka Československá zbrojovka, has been a bit of a holy grail carbine for me since I've gotten hooked on the Czech semiautos. I finally popped for one at the last Rock Island Auction. It came with a nice Albanian SKS as well. They just arrived today and I couldn't wait to get a look dance2
This is a refurbished rifle that doesn't appear to have been fired since refurbishment; bolt face, lugs, chamber face and magazine followers are all clean. However, it has been fired before (or at least the hammer has been used) since you can clearly see the wear on the hammer from the firing pin. There are only five serial numbers on the rifle: the receiver, operating rod (sleeve) and stock match, while the handguard and bolt carrier do not. I've had it out of the stock and scoured every square centimeter of metal in different types of light and there is definitely no import mark thumb1

I've been lusting after one of these since 2012! $1100 mismatched, poor condition examples have come through gunbroker but I've always had to pass. Blicero actually found me a VZ52 that was rechambered to x39 for ~$700 but I passed on that one too because it wasn't really a true 52/57. One of these days I'll get one to keep the Rasheed company, one of these days! (though if I keep waiting any longer these will probably top $2k ea.)
No import stamps likely means Grenada capture yes? I can't think of any other recent conflict that may have involved one of these.

Could be Grenada if any Vz 52/57s came back from that scuffle. That would certainly be appealing. I wonder if any danced south from our northern neighbors. Not sure which era these were imported. If it was pre-2001 that would seem plausible. The unfired since refurbishment condition makes me somewhat skeptical of a possible Grenadan source.

That side folding blade is slicker than snot on bee's knees on a slippery slope.
That is something I doubt I will ever see around here, did this come from a deceased collector's auction? Something that nifty would require 'cold dead hands' for the collector types in Montana. Coincidentally, that is how I hope to finally land an Albanian locally...for a decent price. (Your new Alby is pretty sweet too!)

Fired one of these many years ago at a member shoot for Northeast Shooter Forum. Very stable platform. I wanted to sneak it out the back gate.

:) Nice to hear, although you’re not helping me in my current decision to leave it on the rack :)) I do like shooting my VZ52s and agree that they’re stable. They feel a bit beefier than an SKS despite they’re fragile wood reputation.
