just picked this up. it was in need of some love.
i cant find any refurb stamps on it. only thing i see not matching is the sight leaf.
im curious what poeples thoughts on the laminate stocks are. guessing it is a replacement.
ive taken some up close pics of the only marks i see on it.
wondering where and when or what situation they might have been put on.
thanks

Looks to have the original attractive and deep Izhevsk Arsenal bluing.  Too bad the cover seemed to suffer some poor storage or care in the past.

Some guns just seemed to have missed the stamp at refurb.  This one would have had a hardwood stock with the factory logo at initial production.  The laminate is a nice looking replacement, though.

'53's are pretty tough to find in any condition so not a bad specimen to have in the collection at all. The font on the receiver and carrier match (and are 100% indicative of Izhevsk origin), does the font on the receiver cover match as well?

From my research I've found that all blonde laminate stocks are replacements regardless of year of manufacture. Just one of those things that appears true with many 100's of data points backing it up.

Thanks for the info fellas.
I believe the serno on the top cover is the same font.
I wondered if there was a big difference noticed in laminate stock colors or shapes.
Like with aks some people have identified slight variations to different periods of time at different factories.  Even speculated that some are Ukrainian replacements.

Nice score and a great looking Izhevsk. Even thought the stock isn't original issue, it is beautiful  thumb1
