Recently my GI clone .45 auto started firing two rounds with one pull of the trigger, it doesn't do this each and every time. Any ideas what this might be? Sear spring or disconnector maybe? I have done nothing to modify it so I can't image why this is happening all of a sudden. I disassembled it and looked at the sear spring, it looks normal, no damage that I can tell but obviously something is wrong!
Any help is appreciated.
You lucky dog! You have a double tap 1911?!?! lol kiddin.
Double fires are usually not a mechanical defect; they are a shooter defect. Some shooters begin with a proper grip, but as they shoot their string, they begin to relax their grip. Are you limp wristing it? If not, which I'm guessing you would not be limp wristing... (just throwing it out there).. thennnn..
I'm thinking damaged sear or hammer contact surfaces, or it could be the overtravel screw that's in too far? dunno.

It has a 5½ lb trigger pull which has worked out well for me in the year I have had it but I'm thinking I may be loosening my grip during a chain of shots and it's "bump firing" on me. It happened to my daughter about a week ago and scared the puddin' out of her!
I have a spare spring kit so I think I'll change out the sear spring tomorrow and see what happens.
Pull the firing pin and check it and the firing pin bore and clean both is where I would start, did you pop a primer lately?

No sir, I've had no problems with the primers. I've shot 185 grain JHP for nearly a year with no problems.

That's be my recommendation.
I pulled the firing pin as Greasemonkey suggested, no apparent problems there but cleaned everything out anyway. I'll take it out back for a test run and see what happens after changing the sear springs tomorrow.
Let us know!

I absolutely agree, I took the firing pin out and cleaned everything. Made sure it was moving freely so sometime tomorrow I'll change the springs and give it a good workout!
I sure thank you Greasemonkey.
I just got a chance to try my pistol. I cleaned the firing pin and bore the other day as GM suggested, then put in a new sear spring and recoil spring. I tightened up the trigger pull a wee bit as I didn't like it so light.
It's now running like a dream!
